About The Position

Maintenance Technician Level 1 is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining manufacturing equipment used in the facility. The technician performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities while supporting safety, quality, production uptime, and continuous improvement objectives. This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and is located at our Van Buren Twp., MI manufacturing site, which is part of our Automotive Structures & Industry business unit.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • 1 – 3 years of industrial maintenance and/or manufacturing experience, required.
  • Experience in troubleshooting, programming, and repairing robotics, PLC, pneumatics, hydraulics, welding applications and CNC machines, required.
  • Conveyor and material handling system maintenance, required.
  • Ability to read electrical prints and technical documentation, required.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast paced and changing environment.
  • Ability to safely use hand and power tools, required.
  • Follow ISO 14001, 9001, 45001, and IATF 16949 requirements.
  • Must be able to pass a background check, drug test, and pre-employment exam, required.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical school, apprenticeship, vocational training, or associate degree, preferred.
  • PLC diagnostics (Allen-Bradley and Siemens preferred).
  • Robot maintenance knowledge (FANUC and ABB preferred).
  • Computerized maintenance management system (PLEX) experience, preferred.
  • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office, preferred.
  • Understanding of mechanics, industrial electrical systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and preventative maintenance concepts, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Independently troubleshoot and repair routine equipment breakdowns.
  • Perform mechanical and electrical repairs with minimal supervision.
  • Complete work orders accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Support production by responding promptly to equipment failures.
  • Assist with equipment installations, modifications, and improvements.
  • Communicate equipment issues, repair status, and corrective actions to stakeholders.
  • Independently perform assigned preventive maintenance activities.
  • Monitor equipment performance and identify emerging reliability concerns.
  • Assist in predictive maintenance activities and basic equipment inspections.
  • Recommend improvements to PM procedures and maintenance practices.
  • Support 5S, safety, and equipment improvement initiatives.
  • Progress through the ToolingU maintenance training program.
  • Expand knowledge of automated manufacturing systems.
  • Develop proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Learn basic PLC diagnostics and automated equipment operation.
  • Develop root cause analysis and structured problem-solving skills.
  • Build understanding of automotive manufacturing processes and quality requirements.
  • All other duties assigned by the supervision and necessary to perform the job.
