About The Position
The City of Portage is looking for a dedicated and experienced Streets/Grounds Maintenance Technician to join our Public Works Department! If you are passionate about working outside, are results-oriented, and are a team player, this is your opportunity to make an impact.
Requirements
- A demonstrated work ethic.
- Ability to lift objects and tools over 50 pounds and work under adverse weather conditions.
- Must be 18 years old and possess a high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Valid Michigan Class “B” CDL with air brakes required.
- CDL-A to be obtained in the first 6 months.
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience in snow plowing, building trades, mowing, and road repairs is preferred.
- Experience operating a dump truck with an underbody blade is helpful.
- Valid Michigan Class “A” CDL with tanker endorsement, and a DOT medical card preferred.
Responsibilities
- Manual construction and maintenance activities associated with the City of Portage properties, city streets, sewers, parks, and cemeteries from April to October.
- Operation of heavy-duty trucks for leaf pick-up and snow removal.
- Overtime is required for the City Leaf Clean-up program and Winter Street Maintenance with night/weekend shift requirements.
- Adjusted work schedule of 3:30 AM -12:00 PM or 12:00 PM - 8:30 PM for winter street maintenance, with the potential of a midnight start time for the first shift or midnight end time for the second shift as weather dictates.
