About The Position

Founded in 1855, Collins is family-owned and produces softwood and hardwood products at their facilities in Chester, California, Lakeview, Oregon and Kane, Pennsylvania. In Chester, Collins has the Builders Supply retail hardware and building materials store. Collins is highly respected for their sustainable forest management, practiced across their 370,000 acres of FSC®-certified lands in California, Oregon, and Pennsylvania. Position Summary: The Maintenance Supervisor supervises maintenance programs, processes, and personnel in a wood products manufacturing facility. Personnel in the Maintenance Department that report to the maintenance supervisor include millwrights, mechanics, and oilers.

Requirements

  • Strong reasoning and problem-solving skills; ability to think creatively and find innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Availability to lead repairs of mechanical breakdowns.
  • Working knowledge of maintenance procedures and preventative/predictive maintenance associated with the above-mentioned programs and processes.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Ability to provide own basic tools.
  • Prior experience as a maintenance supervisor or lead in a wood products manufacturing facility, including work on sawmill machinery, steam systems, kilns, boilers, dust collection, and fire prevention systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in using maintenance management software preferred (CMMS) preferred.
  • Working knowledge of effective preventative/predictive maintenance methodologies and processes preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, and supervise daily, weekly, and other periodic mechanical repair and maintenance for the facility.
  • Lead a safe working environment: train employees in safe equipment operation. motivate employees to lead the operation to superior safety performance. inspect and monitor work areas, examine tools and equipment, and provide employee safety training to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures and safety rules. engage in continuing education and improvement to processes and work procedures. lead safety behavior by example.
  • Actively engage in improving maintenance programs and planning and scheduling functions.
  • Audit employee PMs and other work to ensure maintenance is completed at a high standard and machinery is tested for operation.
  • Promote team communication between departments.
  • Process employee time and attendance reports.
  • Perform additional duties as required by Maintenance Superintendent.
  • Lead and mentor maintenance staff.
  • Responsible for performance management of direct reports in accordance with company values, objectives, and policies.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, training, and support consistent with developing and sustaining a high-performing and accountable team.
