National Grid is hiring a Maintenance Supervisor. This position will sit in our Hicksville Location but will travel to our various plant sites across Long Island.Job Purpose The duties of Maintenance Supervisor include planning, execution, and follow through of all work associated with Generation facilities assigned to the MSD organization. This discipline combines two roles in one. The first role is that of a planner who, through their technical expertise, plans the workflow process during turbine or generator overhauls. The second role is to provide matrixed direct field supervision and expertise to the MSD foreman to implement the plan during the overhaulperiod. During periods of non-overhaul, the Maintenance Supervisors are assigned responsibilities for project planning within the upcoming overhaul period, including capital projects and non-overhaul work assigned to MSD. The Maintenance Supervisors are assigned responsibilities for completing turbine and generator overhauls, safely, on time, and within budget. This position reports directly to the site Outage Manager. Requires significant field presence at assigned power plant locations to complete all responsibilities. Specific areas of focus include the planning phase, execution phase, initial in-service period, and the post outage report / recommendations phase for all turbine and generator overhauls. The Maintenance Supervisor will, working as a turbine and generator specialist, develop a steam or gas turbine and generator overhaul worklist based upon generating unit operational history, base worklist recommendations, demand maintenance repair requests and OEM technical information literature. This will be accomplished within specific department budget and unit outage schedule. This position will determine labor resource needs and develop a detailed schedule to achieve the completion date of the outage, managing the schedule daily and making the necessary adjustments of site labor.
Requirements
- In-depth knowledge of scheduling, cost control, project management techniques, turbine and generator maintenance and repair, labor relations and contractor work practices are required.
- Candidates possess extensive experience in power station construction, operation and maintenance.
- Specific experience and knowledge in turbine and generator overhauls preferred.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent 5 years’ experience in power plant maintenance covering all types of steam, gas turbine and diesel generator unit technologies.
Responsibilities
- Provides completely planned work package with individual knowledge in all aspects of the generating unit being overhauled.
- Requires removal from the direct supervision of personnel to devote their full attention to the planning process. Day-to-day involvement and oversight of the execution phase of the project is required.
- Provide input to Engineering during the design phase of new projects to ensure proper work practices and overall workability of the project.
- Reviews technical specifications and documents for constructability.
- Anticipates potential problems during constructability reviews and during construction and recommends/initiates appropriate corrective actions.
- Provides complete in-house coordination and implementation of the overhaul/repair process.
- Standardizes processes throughout Power Plant Operations to complete projects in an expedited manner.
- Coordinates the planning of projects which are beyond the scope of the MSD workforce, but which fall in the boundaries of the outage/overhaul work scope, using outside vendor and contract management resources.
- Direct the allocation of personnel (through the respective crew foreman) to provide necessary skills required to complete the work in the field.
- Plan work assignments to maintain budgets and budget controls.
- Administer contracts with vendors and contractors.Administer the Company Policies and Procedures on both the supervisory and contract level.Perform budgetary projections and track and analyze expenditures.
- Coordinate MSD resources utilizing the P6 Project Planning tool to provide an accurate reflection of the progress on all work to the respective plant managers to ensure adherence to overhaul schedules.
- Tracking overall schedule and providing changes in scope (with duration, impact and budgetary estimates) toplant and MSD management as soon as they occur.
- Provides essential coordination for the allocation of resources across all plant locations.
- Provides point of contact to immediately address issues (for internal customers) as they arise.
