About The Position

Allient Inc. is in growth mode and currently seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to join our team in Oshkosh, Wisconsin!  The Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for assigning, directing, supervising and working with assigned plant maintenance and service personnel, under the general direction of plant management. They will plan and perform a wide range of mechanical and electrical installations, maintenance and repair operations throughout the plant and office areas. Work involves the dismantling, adjusting, repairing, and re-assembling of machine tools, a variety of single purpose machinery and bench assembly equipment, as well as new construction operations required for plant modification and related plant layout changes. Responsibilities comprise security of the building; start-up and shut down of facility and equipment in accordance with operating schedules; and the maintenance and janitorial service to buildings, grounds, systems and equipment. Requirements

  • Education: Equivalent to high school plus combined technical and practical training comparable to a formal apprenticeship or associate degree in Electro-Mechanical Technology desired.
  • Licenses/Certifications/Registrations: Valid Driver's License; Journeyman Electrican license preferred (or willingness to obtain)
  • Experience: Over 4 years up to and including 5 years of industrial manufacturing maintenance experience desired; 2-5 years of supervisory skills preferred.
  • Knowledge: Maintenance trades such as painting, repair and refurbishing, pipe fitting, electrical, carpentry, millwright and fabricating. Familiar with heating, air conditioning, machine scrubbing and scarifying, and material handling. Requires the use of shop mathematics, complicated drawings, specifications, tables, and training in mechanical or electrical trade.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics (electrical hydraulic engineering blueprints) as needed to perform work.
  • Considerable judgment is required to devise new or modify and adapt existing practices and procedures to meet unusual or emergency situations.
  • Experience with an ERP system.

  • Machine shop skills desired (lathe/milling machine/shear, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Direct, supervise and work with approximately 1 to 2 persons in the performance of maintenance and repair to carpet, vinyl and ceramic tile; concrete floor refinishing; painting all surfaces, fixtures and equipment; relocation, installation and repair of equipment; maintenance of exterior grounds; and operation of maintenance machinery and equipment, as required.
  • Work with external service providers to obtain quotes or bids for specialized technical assistance or for custom equipment related projects.
  • Collaborate with plant management to coordinate and plan daily maintenance work assignments related to work orders on the production floor. Work from drawings, sketches, wiring diagrams, machine tool maintenance manuals, work order requests, and oral instructions. Assume supervisory responsibilities of production areas in the absence of the regularly assigned Supervisor.
  • Diagnose mechanical or electrical malfunctions, dismantle unit, repair or replace defective parts or mechanisms, reassemble and prove out. Collaborate with Manager on electrical planning and lay out work. Perform electrical wiring installations, as required, to complement secondary distribution of electrical power to machinery and equipment. Perform telephone installations, maintenance and repairs to in-plant communications system. Use oscilloscope, multi-meter, decibel noise meter, ampere meter, etc.
  • Level, align, and secure machines, equipment and auxiliaries. Maintain, adjust or repair laminating machines, transfer molding machines, bake ovens, vacuum chambers, coil winders and formers, paper cutters, wire strippers, burn-out oven, paint spray units, air compressor and controls, machine tools, powered portable hand tools, electric motors, air and hydraulic connectors, overhead doors and various other plant related machinery and equipment. Perform plumbing and pipe fitting installations and repair toilets, valves and leaks. Perform ordinary welding and brazing as related to maintenance requirements. 
  • Requisition building maintenance and custodial supplies and equipment, as required. Train employees in the proper performance of a variety of building maintenance tasks that involve carpentry, plumbing, electrical and millwright work and janitorial services. Implement company safety policies and procedures and assure that all safety regulations are adhered to.
  • Set up and operate machine tools, as required. Collaborate with Machinist and/or Fabricator to provide machining, fabricating, and electrical installation and repair service. Collaborate with others in the preliminary trial runs of new machinery. Take over responsibility of repairs and maintenance upon release for production.
  • Inspect condition of plant operating machines and equipment for preventative maintenance purposes. Detect faulty operation, diagnose malfunctions and provide remedy or report to proper Supervisor. Maintain specified records of work performed, details of repairs, and material usage. Maintain equipment and working area in neat and orderly condition.
  • Maintain the PM/Calibration recall system per the NetSuite cadence for each piece of equipment. Monitor the lighting and HVAC conditions throughout the plant to achieve maximum conservation of energy; report unusual conditions to plant management. Maintain plant security by locking and checking all doors and alarm system relays. Lock up plant each night and assure that unscheduled systems and equipment are shut off.
  • Provide assistance to production departments in accordance with workload requirements. Answer all security alarms and follow up with City Police to investigate causes. Report on findings to plant management.
  • Direct, assist and train subordinate employees. Appraise work performance, make recommendations on new hires, transfers, promotions and terminations. Discipline, as required, and collaborate with Supervisor and Personnel Management on employee relations matters, safe practices and adherence to the labor agreement.
  • Change molding die sets frequently on hydraulic presses. Fabricate repair parts as required for machinery. Troubleshoot and repair operating equipment and machinery as needed. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or associated with the responsibility.
