About The Position

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the care, maintenance, and safe operation of parish buildings and grounds, ensuring that all facilities reflect the dignity and reverence appropriate to a Catholic Church. This role supports the parish’s mission by providing a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for worship, ministry, and community activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required and three years of facility maintenance experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of the practices, methods and equipment utilized in facilities maintenance, construction and repair activities.
  • Knowledge of janitorial, general repairs, plumbing, electrical systems, painting, carpentry, construction, heating and air conditioning systems.
  • Ability to supervise the maintenance team to operate tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Ability to organize, multitask, and prioritize workflow.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates discretion and confidentiality.

  • Effective, positive, and consistent communication with all staff and parishioners.
  • Ability to be flexible and cooperative.
  • Must pass background check and comply with diocesan Safe Environment policies.

  • Must have average computer skills, including aptitude with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Physical stamina to handle a full shift of being active and walking from building to building.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Employees will follow OSHA guidelines and immediately report any work-related injury.
  • Employees are exposed to noise levels that are generally moderate; the office area is quiet, and some areas of the facilities or construction sites are loud.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise maintenance team to complete routine maintenance and minor repairs on buildings, equipment, and grounds.
  • Coordinate and supervise outside contractors for major repairs or specialized services.
  • Supervise Maintenance Team to complete regular inspections of church, parish hall, offices, classrooms, and other facilities.
  • Oversee contractors /parish maintenance team to ensure HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and lighting systems are functioning and up to date.
  • Oversee landscaping, lawn care, and general grounds upkeep to ensure seasonal lawn oversight, leaf removal, etc. Ensure task list is maintained and completed by parish maintenance team.
  • Ensure parking lots, walkways, and outdoor lighting are maintained properly by parish maintenance team to ensure a safe and risk-free environment.
  • Ensure compliance with local building codes, fire safety regulations, and diocesan policies.

  • Address safety hazards promptly and ensure issues are addressed by parish maintenance team.
  • Supervise the set-up and breakdown of parish events and special liturgies.
  • Coordinate room arrangements with parish staff and ministry leads.
  • Ensure facilities are cleaned by parish maintenance team and prepared for weekend Masses and holy days.

  • Create Daily task list for Maintenance Staff and ensure compliance.
  • Create Preventative Maintenance Schedule.
  • Update maintenance logs and records.
  • Track inventory and order maintenance supplies within approved budget.
  • Obtain quotes and recommend vendors for approval.
  • Provide back-up to Operations Manager.
  • Contribute to an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation among all the Parish staff.
