About The Position

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily work assignments and priorities for the engineering staff. This role involves scheduling and performing preventive maintenance on rooms and building equipment, ensuring all engineering-related work is completed and work orders are executed. The supervisor also performs engineering staff functions when necessary, ensures safety equipment compliance, and maintains knowledge of hotel safety procedures. Handling chemicals, performing emergency repairs, and maintaining tools are also key aspects of the role. This position carries supervisory responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, training, performance appraisal, and problem resolution.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum two years’ experience as a hotel maintenance engineer.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Basic working knowledge of building maintenance, electrical, plumbing and refrigeration equipment.
  • Working knowledge of repair and maintenance regarding health codes; plumbing codes; plant equipment; electrical codes; architectural codes; structural codes; blueprints and wiring/plumbing schematics; building code improvement; mechanical and electrical/safety systems construction; national/local fire codes; proper chemical handling and disposal; power and hand tools, meters, etc. as it relates to the technical trades; local mechanical codes; OSHA codes and best practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to interpret manufacturer’s literature for installation, preparation, use and upkeep of various materials and products used throughout the property.
  • Ability to perform assigned duties with attention to detail, speed, accuracy, follow-through, courtesy, cooperativeness and work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Ability to endure abundant physical movements in carrying out job duties.
  • Ability to enforce hotel's standards, policies and procedures with staff.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and use alternatives in emergency situations.
  • Ability to handle potentially hazardous chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of hotel guests and pertinent hotel information.

Nice To Haves

  • College degree or vocational training a plus.
  • Any building trade license/certificate from the state of hotel’s operation preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Delegate daily work assignments and review priorities and special projects.
  • Schedule and perform work in accordance with the preventive maintenance program in rooms, coordinating with the Rooms Division Department.
  • Ensure final inspection of all engineering-related work and execution of all work orders.
  • Perform engineering staff functions whenever necessary.
  • Ensure all safety equipment is in compliance and working order with federal quarterly/annual inspections to city, state and codes.
  • Maintain knowledge of hotel safety procedures and ensure application of such.
  • Handle chemicals for designated uses/surfaces, according to hotel requirements.
  • Perform emergency equipment and machinery repair as needed.
  • Maintain the proper use, cleaning, maintenance, and storage of all tools.
  • Exercise safety precautions when working on equipment (use of safety signs, etc.).
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities that may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Participate in the preventive maintenance program of all building equipment and rooms.
  • Supervise, train, and inspect the performance of the Engineering Department to include the proper operation, maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repair of all heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and mechanical equipment.
  • Assist hotel leadership in developing, coordinating, and monitoring a maintenance program to ensure the safety, security, and comfort of all staff and guests.
