About The Position

Schaefer Plastics is seeking an experienced, hands-on Maintenance Supervisor to lead maintenance operations in our injection-molding manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for overseeing maintenance technicians, coordinating daily maintenance activities, supporting equipment uptime, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of production equipment, auxiliary systems, and facility infrastructure. The ideal candidate brings strong technical maintenance expertise, proven leadership, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. This individual will play a key role in improving equipment reliability, supporting production, and developing a high-performing maintenance team.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in plastics injection molding.
  • Minimum of 2 years of leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience in maintenance.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or related education preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting injection molding machines, robotics, and auxiliary equipment strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support maintenance technicians in the completion of daily maintenance activities, equipment repairs, and preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Assign and prioritize maintenance work based on production demands, downtime events, and overall facility needs.
  • Lead troubleshooting and repair efforts on injection molding machines, robots, auxiliary equipment, and facility systems.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance execution to ensure scheduled work is completed accurately and on time through the computerized maintenance management system.
  • Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities to improve uptime, reliability, and maintenance efficiency.
  • Coordinate maintenance support for mold changes, production line issues, and unplanned downtime events.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are documented accurately, including repairs performed, parts used, and follow-up actions needed.
  • Maintain critical facility systems, including electrical, compressed air, chilled water, HVAC, and related utilities.
  • Partner closely with production, process, tooling, and leadership teams to quickly resolve equipment-related issues and minimize disruptions.
  • Identify spare parts, replacement components, and outside service needs; communicate proactively to avoid downtime risks.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of larger repairs, equipment upgrades, capital projects, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Train, coach, and develop maintenance team members to strengthen technical capability, safe work practices, and overall performance.
  • Promote and enforce compliance with all safety requirements, including: Lockout/tagout, Fall protection, Electrical safe work practices, Personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Maintain strong housekeeping, organization, and maintenance shop standards.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, urgency, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
