About The Position

Maintenance Supervisor Working under the guidance of the Maintenance Manager, directly supervises mechanics and service workers, monitors outside contract laborers; schedules the repairs and maintenance of a wide variety of light to heavy powered equipment; ensures an environment that meets the highest levels of safety and that complies with regulatory requirements. Requirements

  • Must be 21 or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED, required
  • Must possess a valid CA CDL with a good driving record
  • Must be eligible for and able to obtain a Commercial Drivers License with a Passenger endorsement within 30 days of hire
  • A- Rated Mechanic (Journeyman Level) with multiple relevant ASE Certifications with an emphasis on the repair of buses and other heavy vehicles.
  • Good oral communication skills
  • Ability to read and follow written and spoken instructions
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and abide by Material Safety Data Sheets and all other safety training materials provided
  • Ability to learn shop processes including fueling vehicles and cleaning vehicles
  • Ability to mix and use a variety of cleaning products
  • Ability to use a variety of equipment such as buffers, scrubbing machines, and other heavy cleaning equipment
  • Strong attention to details
  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to manipulate, handle or feel; reach with hands or arms; and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel crouch or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in extreme heat and cold and in a damp environment with moderate noise.
  • May be exposed to water, fumes, and chemicals.
  • Must submit to drug testing, physical examination, and a criminal background check
  • Be eligible to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship now or in the future (if based in the U.S.).
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises mechanics and utilities; monitors outside contract laborers
  • Supervises mechanics and service workers.
  • Assigns work tasks and evaluates the completion of those tasks.
  • investigates, provides information, makes and administers decisions concerning employee discipline
  • The Maintenance Foreman also has the responsibility of scheduling shop staff time off
  • Evaluates the performance of employees
  • Facilitates and schedules training of new employees
  • Works with Human Resources by participating in interview panels for maintenance positions
  • Explains administrative policies and procedures to employees; administers Collective Bargaining Agreement provisions
  • Monitors absences/PTO usage; verifies and authorizes time sheets for payroll purposes
  • Schedules outside contract labor for special projects and monitors the laborers performance
  • Conducts daily safety meetings
  • Coordinates coach/fleet vehicle repairs, maintenance and servicing
  • Schedules major and minor repairs
  • Creates work orders for repairs to coaches, reviews past work orders for repairs to coaches, and reviews and closes current work orders
  • Assigns work to mechanics based on the type of work required and the needs of the organization
  • Makes on-the-spot decisions regarding repairs; and, at times, makes on-the-spot repairs
  • Consults with mechanics on diagnosis and procedures for repair and assists with technical questions
  • Generates tracking sheets to ensure repairs are completed in a timely manner
  • Monitors staff work for quality and quantity
  • Works with Parts Clerk to obtain the correct replacement parts
  • Decides which coaches to remove from and restore to service
  • Determines and schedules vehicles ready for preventative maintenance
  • Schedules the coaches listed for preventative maintenance
  • Tracks and analyzes data for various reports
  • Reviews work orders for accuracy
  • Monitors the status of down/out-of-service equipment and issues a daily report
  • Collects oil samples and sends them for analysis
  • Performs tasks and projects as assigned
  • Addresses any environmental concerns or issues that develop
  • Ensures the cleanliness of the yard and facilities
  • Has extensive contact with others inside the organization; works with dispatch personnel, operations supervisors, and road supervisors dispatch to facilitate the maintenance and repairs of the coaches.
  • Has moderate contact with others outside the organization communicates with outside vendors regarding the repair/maintenance of the coaches.
  • Other duties as required.
