About The Position

The Maintenance Supervisor, reporting to the Sr. Manager of Maintenance and Facilities, is responsible for supervising the Maintenance department at all Bolingbrook and Blue Island locations. The primary goal is to ensure maximum utilization of maintenance employees to keep the plant running efficiently and minimize equipment downtime. This role involves planning and assigning work, implementing policies and procedures, and recommending improvements in maintenance methods, equipment, operating procedures, and working conditions. The supervisor balances quality, productivity, cost, safety, and morale to achieve positive results, managing manpower and materials effectively. They will also initiate and lead continuous improvement activities, maintain plant cleanliness and 6S standards, and direct the safety program for the maintenance department, ensuring compliance with all environmental, health, and safety requirements. This position supports maintenance activities across all G&W manufacturing locations, assists with plant improvements and expansions, ensures regulatory compliance (e.g., NFPA-70E), and tracks key maintenance performance indices. The supervisor is responsible for all aspects of managing hourly maintenance personnel, including hiring, discipline, performance evaluation, development, and training, while also ensuring effective employee relations through mentoring and problem resolution.

Requirements

  • 10+ years progressive experience in a maintenance environment
  • 5-7 years of experience in a manufacturing environment and knowledge of production equipment maintenance.
  • Direct experience in management of mechanics for the maintenance of equipment
  • Minimum of 5+ years experience directing an hourly or manufacturing workforce
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Intermediate computer skills including experience using the MS Office suite, a business planning and inventory system
  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, and EPA standards

Responsibilities

  • Supervising the Maintenance department at all Bolingbrook and Blue Island locations.
  • Ensuring maximum utilization of maintenance employees to keep the plant running efficiently and minimizing equipment downtime.
  • Planning and assigning work, implementing policies and procedures, and recommending improvements in maintenance methods, equipment, operating procedures, and working conditions.
  • Balancing quality, productivity, cost, safety, and morale to achieve positive results within the area of control.
  • Managing manpower and materials needed to complete jobs accurately and on time.
  • Initiating and leading continuous improvement activities, including researching new processes, procedures, and equipment.
  • Coordinating with cross-functional counterparts.
  • Maintaining plant cleanliness and 6S standards, initiating and enforcing improvement and compliance.
  • Directing, maintaining, and enforcing the safety program for the maintenance department.
  • Ensuring safety training is completed on time and effectively.
  • Reviewing safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for all employees.
  • Ensuring equipment and building infrastructure is maintained to comply with all environmental and health and safety requirements.
  • Leading activities needed to perform accident investigations, safety observations, and hazard mapping.
  • Supporting maintenance activities and training in all G&W manufacturing locations.
  • Assisting with planning and implementing plant improvements and expansions.
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance with NFPA-70E (Arc Flash) for all maintenance activities.
  • Tracking, analyzing, and improving key maintenance performance indices including asset utilization, up time, PM compliance, etc.
  • Preparing reports, analyzing data, and making recommendations for improving plant operations and solving maintenance-related problems.
  • Utilizing KPIs to drive improvement.
  • Being responsible for all supervisory activities related to hourly maintenance personnel, including hiring and disciplinary decisions.
  • Evaluating competency and managing employee performance, development, and training.
  • Maintaining timekeeping and absenteeism records.
  • Managing and communicating disciplinary actions.
  • Providing timely feedback and conducting periodic performance evaluations.
  • Ensuring effective employee relations by providing employee mentoring and development and resolving employee issues through coaching and problem resolution.
  • Responsible for day-to-day performance of a group of ~6+ employees.
  • Guiding/monitoring group toward its goals, ensuring employee productivity, resolving problems, and having the authority to change work roles and work distribution.
  • Providing genuine input regarding Human Resources matters of significance, such as participating in selection of new employees, providing meaningful input to performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, terminations, etc.
