About The Position

In this role you will supervise, lead, mentor, and develop maintenance and facilities personnel while fostering a strong culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Oversee the upkeep of building and grounds, existing equipment and the installation of new equipment. Plan and direct maintenance and facility activities with a focus on quality, productivity, downtime reduction, and defect prevention.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree Required (Engineering or Technical preferred)
  • Minimum of 2 years of building/facilities/maintenance mechanical experience while leading a team
  • A minimum of 2 years of people management experience in operations environment.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching and leading others
  • Proven ability to communicate and comprehend specifics regarding equipment malfunctions; visual ability to identify equipment problems; computer skills for ordering parts and troubleshooting.
  • Assure compliance with all quality standards including but not limited to: SOP, GMP and BRC requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook) required to support daily job functions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English (written and verbal) to perform job-related duties.

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years’ work experience in the maintenance field of automated packaging equipment to include mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and PLC programming is preferred
  • Prior experience in food manufacturing
  • Project management experience

Responsibilities

  • Conduct maintenance in a manner that promotes safety while abiding by LOTO & GMP policies and procedures
  • Ability to lead and mentor a group of hourly employees to promote JMS culture while enhancing their skillset in all areas of maintenance, building and grounds and facility upkeep related tasks.
  • Provide problem solving expertise and root cause analysis on machinery malfunction and facility upkeep
  • Develop and execute predictive and preventative PM programs
  • Direct and deploy technical resources to repair or maintain equipment
  • Build mastery level skills in advanced technicians, advanced technical skills in equipment owners, and basic technical and trouble-shooting skills in all technicians
  • Ensure technical documentation, PMs, and spare parts for department equipment and systems are identified and in place
  • Create necessary PMs and SOPs to properly maintain equipment & facility and enable resources to execute work
  • Collaborate with Ops Leaders in the development of work plans that maximize startup effectiveness and efficiency
  • Administrator of timekeeping, attendance tracking, and payroll approval processes to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies.
  • Maintain product safety and quality and legality for storage and distribution of product in accordance with the J.M. Smucker company quality policy and standards.
  • Continuously monitor and physically inspect equipment and facilities upkeep
  • Operate band saw, drill press and all types of handheld power equipment
  • Perform repairs, adjustments and overhauls to equipment and document the encountered problems, to include but not limited to all repairs on forklifts, conveyors, automated lines, maintenance equipment and all building and grounds
  • Perform preventative maintenance related work as required
  • Own and develop department continuous improvement projects
  • Dismantle and reassemble machines to fit or replace necessary parts
  • Conduct electrical repairs (per training and certification)
  • Support and abide by the company’s safety program and all safety initiatives, policies, and procedures
  • Complete work orders and maintain reporting.
  • Operate a forklift, scissor & boom lift, battery extractor and all other necessary equipment.
  • Supervise with Basic Beliefs as a foundation and preserves Smucker culture.
  • Other duties as assigned.
