About The Position

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for coordinating all maintenance activities in accordance with company policies, principles, and procedures. This role involves conferring with department heads, manufacturing representatives, and suppliers of maintenance materials and equipment. The supervisor will develop plans for efficient use of materials and employees, assist in developing reports to monitor key operating performance (safety, quality, cost, productivity, yield, and variances), and review maintenance costs of all equipment to develop control programs. Additionally, the supervisor will review and recommend budgets to Plant Management, assist in developing and overseeing capital projects, and act as a lead member of the plant safety committee, conducting regular safety training. The role also involves assisting the Plant Manager with internal and external audits, performing preventative maintenance, responding to equipment emergencies, ordering spare parts, and participating on plant management teams. The supervisor will also oversee the Feed operation and its operator, visually inspect and test machinery, and diagnose equipment problems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least 2 years of maintenance leadership experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, with the ability to use these tools for daily communication, documentation, and basic reporting.
  • Capable of following and communicating written and verbal instructions in English.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to make professional presentations to senior management in a meeting environment.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables at any given time.
  • Must be able to read and understand electrical blueprints and schematics.
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision and make decisions based on experience.
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands to figure, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, climb, or balance.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to focus.
  • Adhere to the Good Manufacturing Policies set forth by the Company as they pertain to personnel practices, equipment, and facilities.
  • Work in a safe manner and follow company policies regarding safety.
  • Report any and all injuries immediately to the supervisor, and to report to supervision any safety situation that the employee feels is substandard and poses a risk for employee injury, property damage, or loss.

  • Degree in industrial maintenance, engineering technology, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and hands-on maintenance experience in manufacturing setting will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and recommends budgets to Plant Management.
  • Assists in developing and overseeing implementation of capital projects for the plant. Assists with the development, implementation, and project cost tracking for major capital projects.
  • Is a Lead member of the plant safety committee, conducting regular safety training for all site employees.
  • Assists the Plant Manager in preparing for all internal and external audits.
  • Performs all preventative maintenance activities for the plant and keeps accurate records.
  • Responds to all plant equipment emergencies and plant down time.
  • Orders all spare parts, materials needed for maintenance and keeps and accurate inventory of critical spare parts.
  • Participates on all plant management teams as a key staff member.
  • Supervises the Feed operation and its operator located in the shop.
  • Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.
  • Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problems or repair machines.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting with interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
