Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor will oversee the day-to-day operations of a maintenance department and the supervision of a team responsible for the preventive maintenance and repair of fleet. Ensure all repairs and/or maintenance to equipment (diesel fleet, alternate fuel, containers, and other heavy-duty equipment) is performed in accordance with Company safety and compliance standards, and with all federal/state regulations. What You’ll Do Leadership & Shop Oversight Oversee daily planning and scheduling of all repair work to maximize productivity Assign and monitor work orders; follow up to ensure repairs are completed safely and correctly Lead daily shop huddles and conduct fleet walks Supervise, coach, train, and evaluate technicians Provide input on hiring, discipline, compensation, and promotion decisions Serve as backup to the Maintenance Manager as needed Technical & Operational Responsibilities Oversee complex diagnostics and assist with advanced repairs when necessary Conduct road tests on equipment as needed Perform Quality Control Inspections (QCIs) Inspect outside vendor repairs for safety and compliance Maintain deep working knowledge of diesel engines, emissions systems, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, electrical systems, compactors, and welding Planning & Administration Plan and schedule repairs in M5 Procure parts in advance to ensure jobs are set up for success Assist with inventory control and budget management Review and approve shop expenses within approval authority Manage payroll, employee records, and maintenance documentation Update and submit required reports in a timely manner Assist in preparation and submission of department budgets Introduce and support District and Corporate performance goals Safety & Compliance Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and all federal/state regulations Investigate vehicle damage and safety incidents Conduct and attend driver/safety meetings Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment What We’re Looking For Requirements High School Diploma or GED Valid Driver’s License (CDL preferred) 3+ years of heavy diesel truck maintenance experience 1+ year of leadership or lead technician experience Microsoft Office experience Full set of hand tools required Technical Knowledge Diesel engines, air brakes, hydraulics, electrical systems Welding and compactor repair Vehicle inspections and preventive maintenance DOT and OSHA compliance standards Shop software experience (M5 preferred) Skills & Abilities Strong leadership, coaching, and team-building skills Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced shop Excellent problem-solving and decision-making ability Strong communication skills High level of integrity and professionalism Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in physically demanding conditions Working Conditions Indoor and outdoor work in all weather conditions Exposure to noise, fumes, diesel fuel, and moving machinery Frequent walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, lifting, and equipment operation Required use of PPE including safety-toed boots, gloves, eye and hearing protection, reflective vest, and hard hat Why Work at GFL?
