About The Position

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible to plan, direct, coordinate and otherwise manage the efforts of the people and the processes involved in procuring, installing and maintaining the equipment and building to the extent of full OSHA compliance and high effectiveness. The Maintenance Supervisor is also responsible for managing the Hazardous Waste Management and related programs.

Requirements

  • Education: College degree or equivalent training/ work experience in one or more of the following fields: Business Management, Maintenance, Tooling Design, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: Actual work experience of at least 3 years working in an equipment service field including as many of the following as possible: Troubleshooting, preventative service, construction of and repair of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment and systems.
  • OSHA Compliance training certification.
  • Hazardous Waste Management training certification.
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to maintain a professional, friendly demeanor.
  • Solid ability in identifying and resolving problems in a timely, effective manner.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Must dress and present oneself in a professional manner.
  • Must provide and wear safety toe footwear.
  • Must supply and care for his or her own personal repair and troubleshooting tools necessary to perform service to equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the efforts of Maintenance personnel and Tool Room attendant to ensure equipment is available and working effectively so that the production line meets or exceeds production goals. Delegate tasks, instruct and monitor the performance of department personnel.
  • Follow all regulatory processes for proper Hazardous Waste Management and related programs including training, reporting and storage requirements. Communicate about issues with and ensure proper training for necessary people (usually Spray Painters and Material Handlers) regarding Hazardous Waste Management. Assist in resolving any problems.
  • Ensure proper processes and steps are followed for preventative and repair service, equipment construction and installations, tool and consumables ordering, issue to and return from employees, equipment inspections and repair service contractor activities.
  • Communicate with Production personnel regarding potential equipment and compliance issues such as delays, breakdowns, vendor problems, and shortages. Ensure the department employees do the same. Assist in resolving such problems and issues.
  • Ensure that all Maintenance personnel are trained in Lock Out Tag Out Energy Control Program and all other safety programs necessary to perform maintenance service safely. Monitor new-hire on-the-job training for effectiveness. Participate in training when necessary and practical.
  • Conduct accident investigation or review the Injury/ Near Hit analysis report for any accident that occurs in areas of responsibility including close calls. Follow up on and ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Review Safety Team meeting notes. Follow up with Team Leaders on issues.
  • Participate in plant Safety Audits. Ensure corrective action is taken on items of non-compliance in responsibility areas.
  • Coordinate efforts of teams in responsibility areas to ensure process and standards are consistent for all shifts.
  • Notify Human Resources of job position openings to initiate selection process. Interview and select qualified candidates according to process.
  • Place payroll change notices for changes of position and shift.
  • Process vacation and other time off requests using proper procedures.
  • Monitor attendance and time keeping of teams in responsibility areas. Review and sign timesheets weekly for hourly employees. Address issues of absenteeism, tardiness and incorrect timekeeping using proper processes.
  • Pass through to Human Resources any FMLA requests, ADA requests, timekeeping discrepancies, pay issues, benefit enrollment questions or policy /program questions that are in the Human Resources purview.
  • Respond to department employee questions, complaints and concerns effectively and according to process. Help Team Members to resolve conflicts among themselves.
  • Take disciplinary action according to process for misconduct and rule violations.
  • Notify Human Resources, conduct initial investigation and take appropriate immediate action for any complaints of severe misconduct such as harassment, substance abuse or violent acts.
  • Monitor housekeeping, effective organization, tool care, and end of shift activities in responsibility area and address problems. Primary locations of this responsibility are Maintenance shops, maintenance storage area outside, paint storage building, paint booths and pump rooms, compressed gas storage areas, hazardous waste storage building, sewage treatment building, compressor rooms and tool room.
  • Communicate accurate plant information to department verbally and in writing.
  • Conduct new-hire and Team Leader performance reviews according to process.
  • Participate in, assist in and monitor Team participation in all safety and health programs, recognition programs, quality and improvement initiatives, training and certification, and changes in process that affect people in scope of responsibility.
  • Assist in Facilities Manager critical daily responsibilities when he/she is absent.
  • Act as Emergency Coordinator according to the plant Emergency Action Plan.
  • Other duties as assigned.
