This position serves in the Chesapeake Forest (78,000 acres) and the Pocomoke State Forest (18,492 acres) projects to provide supervision of the maintenance activities on lands owned by the Department, supporting the main goal of inspiring Marylanders to live in harmony with nature and to protect the Chesapeake Bay. In this position the employee must possess and exercise a thorough working knowledge of the maintenance needs and requirements of the physical plant, vehicle fleet, State Forest recreational and land management needs, State operational requirements, and agency/project protocols to ensure proper care of the resources, facilities, and potential of the project. The position entails marking, posting, and brushing state property lines, installing gates on forest roads, removal of trash and other debris dumped on the property, mowing and brushing of roads, and maintenance on equipment that is used on State Forest property. The position supervises, leads and directs assigned staff and volunteers in the performance of their duties and assignments in a wide variety of maintenance activities. Work may also assist with prescribed burns, the construction of forest trails, and the operation of heavy equipment (such as bulldozers, plows, and tractors) to cut grass, remove dead trees, and haul debris.
