The Forestry Supervisor is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing the city's urban forestry program to promote public safety, environmental sustainability, and the long-term health and preservation of the community's tree canopy. This position oversees all aspects of city forestry operations, including tree planting, pruning, preservation, inspection, maintenance, and removal activities on public property and rights-of-way. The Forestry Supervisor supervises forestry maintenance technicians and contractors, schedules and prioritizes work assignments, monitors project progress, and ensures that work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established standards and regulations. The Forestry Supervisor conducts inspections and evaluations of trees to identify maintenance needs, structural defects, disease, pest infestations, and potential safety hazards. The position is responsible for responding to emergencies involving storm damage, fallen trees, and other vegetation-related hazards that may affect public safety or city infrastructure. In addition, the Forestry Supervisor assists with developing and implementing urban forestry plans, maintaining tree inventories, managing budgets and resources, preparing reports and recommendations, and supporting long-term asset management goals. The position serves as a technical resource to city staff, contractors, developers, elected officials, and residents regarding tree management, preservation, and urban forestry best practices. The Forestry Supervisor ensures compliance with city policies, environmental regulations, and workplace safety requirements while fostering a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement. Work is performed in both office and field environments and may require responding to emergencies outside of normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
