About The Position

Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI), a leading not-for-profit organization, is seeking Maintenance Specialists to perform maintenance tasks at assigned facilities in Chicago, IL. This role involves overseeing ongoing maintenance projects, maintaining property upkeep and repairs, and ensuring a safe environment for residents, clients, and staff. Responsibilities include servicing and repairing plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and mechanical equipment, troubleshooting household appliances, responding to on-call emergencies, completing preventive maintenance forms, assisting with remodeling projects, and managing materials and supplies. The position is responsible for maintaining all aspects of the physical plant and grounds in accordance with health and safety requirements at various Behavioral Health Services facilities in the Chicago area. Local travel to various locations in the Chicago Area is required, ranging from 20% to 50%.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • 3 years in a related occupation
  • 3 years of experience with dealing with environmental factors and hazards, including bed bugs, pests, and rodents
  • 3 years of experience with patching, repairing, and painting walls
  • 3 years of experience with repairing washers and dryers
  • 3 years of experience with rodding sewer lines
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license
  • HVAC certification
  • Electrical certification
  • 20% to 50% local travel to various locations in the Chicago area

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance tasks on a regular basis at assigned facilities.
  • Oversee ongoing maintenance projects within the facility.
  • Maintain property upkeep and repairs.
  • Take action to avoid all physical conditions that may be a hazard to the health and safety of residents, clients, and/or staff.
  • Service and repair plumbing, electrical HVAC and mechanical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair household appliances.
  • Respond to on-call emergencies.
  • Complete monthly and annual preventive maintenance forms.
  • Assist with major remodeling projects.
  • Purchase and account for materials and supplies.
  • Assist at other Behavioral Health Services facilities as needed.
  • Responsible for maintaining all facets of physical plan and grounds in accordance with health and safety requirements at the various BHS facilities in the Chicago area.
