About The Position

Assists in planning, overseeing, and participating in the painting, maintenance, and repair projects. This is a permanent 8-hour per day, year-round position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • Minimum two years' minimum journey level experience as a skilled tradesman.
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship training period.
  • Ability to interact appropriately with teachers, staff, community members, students, and regulatory and governmental agencies.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively present verbal information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents, and other school staff.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and technical or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and respond to common inquiries or complaints from regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry as related to the field.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
  • Ability to interpret multiple instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use e-mail.
  • Certificates as determined by the District, including valid Oregon driver's license and asbestos awareness.
  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must frequently smell, walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Often required to climb or balance.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, the ability to adjust focus, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
  • Demonstrate strength and dexterity to operate hand and power tools.
  • Speaking clearly enough to be able to be understood by others.
  • Ability to identify and understand the speech of another person.
  • Emotional stability to work effectively under pressure and control all aspects of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation and painting as needed, including surface preparation, lead containment procedures, sprayers, brushes, and rollers, and application of paints, stains, and coatings.
  • Makes recommendations concerning the purchase of materials and equipment.
  • Prepares reports and keeps records.
  • Performs some maintenance and repair work.
  • Inspects work in progress and, upon completion, inspects for compliance with trade standards.
  • Keeps supervisor current on ongoing projects and those in planning stages.
  • Understands and complies with safety rules and regulations.
  • Scrapes, sands, fills, or prepares surfaces for painting or repainting.
  • Maintains tools and equipment in good working condition.
  • Maintains competency in all position responsibilities.
  • Complies with all safety and work rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Responsible for properly utilizing, operating, and maintaining all department resources.
  • Provides support to other positions as needed.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as appropriate with little or no supervision.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • May work as a laborer in support of journeymen in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler, and other trade positions in the District, including grounds.
  • Assists in training new personnel.
  • All Medford School District employees supervise students and maintain a safe environment.
