About The Position

The Maintenance Specialist IV position in Field Operations involves operating heavy equipment such as backhoes and front-end loaders, driving trucks, and hauling equipment to work sites. This role includes supervising work crews, ensuring heavy equipment is properly maintained and serviced, and assisting the supervisor by overseeing the zone in their absence. Responsibilities also include maintaining records and documentation for all work performance using software like CityWorks, supervising and planning workloads for various personnel (wash truck, dump truck, hydrant inspection, flushing crews), and providing training on the maintenance and repair of water and sewer systems. The position requires investigating system problems, developing corrective actions, conducting valving down and tapping of water and force mains, and installing valves, hydrants, air relief valves, fittings, and other appurtenances. Coordination of post-repair site restoration, including landscaping and roadways, is also a key duty. The role involves inspecting, reviewing, and approving contractor-assigned jobs, performing housekeeping, operating equipment like forklifts and tractors, repairing structures, clearing rights-of-way, serving as a CCTV operator, operating bypass setups, and acting as a utility locator. All Maintenance Specialist IVs must be capable of performing tasks of a Maintenance Specialist II or III. Additional duties include requisitioning parts and supplies, ensuring safety compliance, documenting work orders, interacting with customers, maintaining buildings and grounds, fueling pumps, managing tool and equipment inventory, and demonstrating proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). Training new team members on safe work practices and attending required training classes are also part of the role. This position is subject to on-call duty 24/7.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must possess a Class A or Class B CDL Louisiana Driver's License.
  • Valid State Vehicle Operator's License with class applicable to assigned position.
  • Associate's degree or two-year vocational degree from an accredited college in mechanical, electrical, or welding and two years of experience in operations and/or maintenance OR four (4) or more years’ experience as a Maintenance Specialist III or in industrial/environmental operations and/or maintenance, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the operation of heavy equipment, including backhoes and front-end loaders.
  • Hold or be able to obtain Class 3 Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Certificates issued by the State of Louisiana, Dept. of Health and Hospitals within 3 years.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate post-repair site restoration, including landscaping and roadways, sidewalks, and driveways.
  • Inspect, review, and approve contractor assigned jobs.
  • Perform and maintain housekeeping standards.
  • Operate forklift, weed-eater, and tractor/bush hog.
  • Repair fences and wooden structures.
  • Clear and maintain rights-of-ways.
  • Serve as CCTV operator.
  • Operate and maintain sewerage bypass set-ups.
  • Serve as utility locator/damage prevention facilitator.
  • Perform any tasks required of a Maintenance Specialist II or III employee.
  • Requisition parts and supplies.
  • Ensure that work teams observe all safety requirements.
  • Complete or assist in documenting work orders, basic forms, and employee evaluations.
  • Interact with customers.
  • Responsible for maintenance of buildings and grounds.
  • Responsible for fueling rental pumps.
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory of assigned tools & equipment, as well as proper operation, care and security of assigned items.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and use of computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and related documentation procedures.
  • Initiate work orders.
  • Maintain job safety standards (personal protection equipment, etc.).
  • Comply with City of Shreveport vehicle safety rules.
  • Train new team members on safe work practices.
  • Regularly attend required safety, job related, and certification training classes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.
