The Maintenance Specialist IV position in Field Operations involves operating heavy equipment such as backhoes and front-end loaders, driving trucks, and hauling equipment to work sites. This role includes supervising work crews, ensuring heavy equipment is properly maintained and serviced, and assisting the supervisor by overseeing the zone in their absence. Responsibilities also include maintaining records and documentation for all work performance using software like CityWorks, supervising and planning workloads for various personnel (wash truck, dump truck, hydrant inspection, flushing crews), and providing training on the maintenance and repair of water and sewer systems. The position requires investigating system problems, developing corrective actions, conducting valving down and tapping of water and force mains, and installing valves, hydrants, air relief valves, fittings, and other appurtenances. Coordination of post-repair site restoration, including landscaping and roadways, is also a key duty. The role involves inspecting, reviewing, and approving contractor-assigned jobs, performing housekeeping, operating equipment like forklifts and tractors, repairing structures, clearing rights-of-way, serving as a CCTV operator, operating bypass setups, and acting as a utility locator. All Maintenance Specialist IVs must be capable of performing tasks of a Maintenance Specialist II or III. Additional duties include requisitioning parts and supplies, ensuring safety compliance, documenting work orders, interacting with customers, maintaining buildings and grounds, fueling pumps, managing tool and equipment inventory, and demonstrating proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). Training new team members on safe work practices and attending required training classes are also part of the role. This position is subject to on-call duty 24/7.
