About The Position

The Department of Administrative Services Building Division is seeking a Maintenance Specialist I to join their team! This position performs a variety of tasks beyond basic facility maintenance including skilled construction, installation, alteration, fabrication, maintenance, and repair work in one or more building trades and/or equipment maintenance activities. The Specialist works individually or as a member of a work crew, exercising a substantial degree of independence in planning and organizing their own work and performs related work as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or equivalent vocational education in construction, industrial engineering, HVAC, welding, or other building trade.
  • Experience in building maintenance, a mechanical trade, or performing safety inspections, investigations or training may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis as determined appropriate by the agency.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, understand and follow instructions, read and comprehend blueprints, reference books and equipment manuals.
  • Ability to perform skilled maintenance work in a variety of building and mechanical trades.
  • Ability to trouble shoot and identify problems, determine materials and equipment necessary to install, repair and adjust buildings structures, systems and fixtures.
  • Ability to utilize and maintain hand tools, power tools and maintenance equipment safely.
  • Ability to perform manual labor, work in tight spaces, climb ladders and scaffolding to perform work above ground.
  • Ability to conduct inspections, identify safety hazards and education/train others in accident prevention and safety.
  • Must be able to present a valid driver’s license or another form of reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification/Completion Diploma in one or more applicable Maintenance trade(s).
  • Licensed in one or more applicable Maintenance Fields.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the physical plant with repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Perform carpentry work, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, groundskeeping and other skilled trades work.
  • Schedules and performs specialized preventative maintenance and repairs for equipment, systems, and machinery to ensure necessary inspection, adjustment, and replacement of parts.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of all stock and commonly used maintenance parts.
  • Completes duties as assigned with or without supervision.
  • All other duties assigned within the scope of the classification.
