About The Position

The position of Maintenance/Skilled Generalist (Mechanical/Electrical/Carpentry) is to provide safe, attractive, schools, playgrounds, and equipment to support students learning, play and development. The work requires considerable working knowledge of motorized equipment, electricity, asbestos abatement, and hand/power tools in order to perform work activities.

Requirements

  • Prior job-related experience within craft.
  • Skills to operate hand and power tools used in general grounds maintenance work and small machinery, including tractor/mowing devices.
  • Knowledge of methods and use of materials, tools, processes and equipment used in grounds maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of cultivation, weed control, seeding, and planting of trees and shrubs.
  • Abilities to stand for prolonged periods; understand and carry out oral and written instructions, establish priorities; work independently and with minimal supervision; and meet schedules and deadlines.
  • Physical abilities include lifting, carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching, reaching/handling, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/visual accommodation/field of vision.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license and Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance (applicant agrees to assume cost upon offer of employment).
  • Oregon Limited Building Maintenance Electricians (LBME) License, Universal Refrigeration License, Asbestos Class I License.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to speak a second language preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair boilers, HVAC and refrigeration motors, belts, bearings, and other mechanical parts and equipment.
  • Maintain and repair electrical equipment up to levels of LBME license including but not limited to lighting, electrical outlets, minor rewiring.
  • Maintain all ground equipment.
  • Maintain and repair tools and equipment including small gas engines, electrical motors, vacuum cleaners and similar equipment.
  • Assist with general building maintenance including floors, carpets, concrete work, roofs and gutters.
  • Inspect turf for aeration and drainage issues and take or recommend appropriate action, fertilize and seed as needed for optimum turf health and playability.
  • Install, maintain, and repair irrigation systems.
  • Assist with snow and ice removal.
  • Train grounds staff on the set-up of fields for athletic games and meets.
  • Encapsulate and abate small areas of asbestos (with appropriate license) up to License Type I.
  • Work cooperatively with others.
  • Possess knowledge of District policies and regulations relating to area of responsibility.
  • Communicate with appropriate directors, such as Facilities Director, Director of Business and Operations, and Athletic Director.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
