About The Position

The Maintenance Shop Foreman is a hands-on mechanic and day-to-day shop lead responsible for supporting the Maintenance Manager in coordinating preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs for fleet waste collection trucks, yellow iron, and transfer station equipment. This position works alongside mechanics while helping plan, prioritize, and schedule repair work to ensure equipment is maintained safely, efficiently, and in compliance with Company safety standards and applicable federal and state regulations. The role provides direction, training, and technical support to mechanics, promotes safe work practices, and helps reduce downtime and lost productivity.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in maintenance working with class 8 truck & or heavy equipment.
  • 2 years of experience in a lead technician role, supervisor or other management role requiring a thorough knowledge of safe working practices, DOT, OSHA and other federal and state regulations.
  • Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of position.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification (T1–T8).
  • Ability to create and implement training programs to elevate the skill levels of mechanics.
  • Valid Commercial Class A or B driver's license.
  • 7 plus years of related experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • 1 or more years' experience working with CMMS (Computer Maintenance Management System)

Responsibilities

  • Provide directions to mechanics and leads to ensure that all repair and maintenance work is performed in a safe, efficient and timely manner.
  • Support maintenance and repair of fleet waste collection trucks, yellow iron, loaders, compactors, conveyors, transfer trailers, roll-off equipment, balers, forklifts, and other site support equipment used in the operation.
  • Monitor operational performance and efficiency and take action to redirect activities appropriately.
  • Report to management on performance; make recommendations for process/programmatic changes for improvement or efficiencies.
  • Provides day-to-day direction, training, feedback, and support to mechanics, and escalates performance or conduct concerns to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Perform inspections of outside repairs to ensure all work was properly completed in accordance with Company's safety and compliance procedures and federal and state regulations; follow up where appropriate.
  • Identify training opportunities and, as necessary, document issues and constructively discuss corrective action, as needed, with mechanics.
  • Conduct Quality Control Inspections, track issues and resolution to ensure all work is properly completed in accordance with Company's safety and compliance procedures and federal and state regulations.
  • Oversee repair diagnostics on more complex matters and provide coaching where necessary; may be required to road test vehicles to determine necessary repairs.
  • Oversee maintenance shop inventory to ensure necessary equipment and parts levels are maintained.
  • Maintain advanced knowledge of engine, emission systems, transmission, brake, hydraulic and electrical systems to perform advanced preventive and repair maintenance functions on heavy equipment and vehicles used by Company, including: engine chassis repair and maintenance; knowledge of vehicle & equipment of body control systems, including hydraulics and electrical systems to maintain and repair vehicles in a timely and safe manner; knowledge of heating and air conditioning systems to effectively diagnose and repair complex heating and cooling systems in vehicles in a timely and safe manner; and knowledge of welding tools to fix heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner to ensure equipment is back in an operable condition as quickly and as safely as possible.
  • Manage related administrative matters for team including records of all preventive and corrective maintenance performed, recording of all information into Maintenance Software, with targets and performance objectives established by leadership.
  • Knowledge of CMMS systems (Computer Maintenance Management System)
  • Performing "hands on" repairs to the equipment is required for this position.
