About The Position

The Department of General Services is seeking Maintenance Repairman 2s to serve as lead workers performing skilled and semi-skilled installation, repair, and maintenance work on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) and refrigeration systems, equipment, units, and peripheral devices in Commonwealth buildings. The position supports safe and efficient facility operations and includes monitoring building automation systems, inspecting equipment, completing preventive maintenance, assisting with troubleshooting, estimating project materials, and following safety procedures. This is an essential, full-time, on-site position. Work is assigned across shifts to cover 24/7 operations, and employees must report during emergencies and office closings. Telework is not available.

Requirements

• Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or four years of building and plant maintenance experience involving at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; or an equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Possess a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.
• Be available to work a flexible schedule covering 24/7 shifts.
• Be able to perform the essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Monitor building automation systems and identify issues requiring maintenance.
• Inspect equipment for warning signs, including unusual sounds, loose parts, or improper temperatures.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance to keep HVAC systems clean, lubricated, and functioning properly.
• Assist higher-level staff in diagnosing airflow, electrical, and refrigerant problems.
• Estimate the parts and materials needed for maintenance assignments.
• Follow safety procedures and report concerns to supervisors.
• Install, repair, and maintain HVAC and refrigeration systems, units, equipment, and peripheral devices in Commonwealth buildings.
