About The Position
THIS IS A PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITY OPEN TO CURRENT, PERMANENT EMPLOYEES OF RED RIVER, ATCHAFALAYA & BAYOU BOEUF LEVEE DISTRICT ONLY. The Red River, Atchafalaya & Bayou Boeuf Levee District serves portions of Avoyelles, Rapides & St. Landry parishes. The District has 5 commissioners and 19 employees, with maintenance crews in each parish. Heavy equipment is maintained for levee and drainage maintenance. The Maintenance Repairer 2 position is a valuable part of the Red River, Atchafalaya & Bayou Boeuf Levee District because of their function of work to repair and maintain buildings, facilities, and equipment, along with levee board projects and other tasks. Assist other RRABB employees in completing levee board projects. This incumbent will work under the supervision of the Levee Maintenance Manager.
Requirements
- Two years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering; OR Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses.
Responsibilities
- Make general repairs to and maintain all of RRABB’s buildings, shops, pump control stations, etc.
- Repair and maintain motorized equipment such as electric/manual actuators, pump/motor assemblies, vacuum breakers, etc. at pump stations and flood control structures.
- Lubricate lift gate stems and pumps and pump motors according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Record activities in log books for pump station and flood control structure maintenance.
- Perform start/stop operations on flood control mechanisms, including pumps, actuators, and manual lift gates.
- Perform painting projects, including office/shop walls, ceilings, parking lots, and exteriors.
- Change air filters and perform general maintenance and inspection on A/C systems and other electrical systems.
- Perform critical welding operations on shop equipment and tools.
- Weld mechanical parts for repair or for manufacturing.
- Assist other RRABB employees in completing levee board projects.
