About the Department of Natural Resources (DNR): The Indiana Department of Natural Resources protects, enhances, preserves, and wisely uses natural, cultural, and recreational resources for the benefit of Indiana's citizens through professional leadership, management, and education. The Indiana State Parks system manages 24 state parks, seven small satellite locations, eight reservoir properties, two state forest recreation areas, and two off-road riding areas. Collectively, Indiana State Park properties manage more than 2,000 buildings, 700 miles of trails, 636 hotel/lodge rooms, 17 marinas, 75 launching ramps, 17 swimming pools, 15 beaches, 7,701 campsites, more than 200 shelters, 160 or so playgrounds and 150 cabins. Chain O'Lakes State Park is a 2,718-acre area that encompasses eleven lakes. Nine lakes are connected, making the park a favorite of boaters. Visitors can paddle through the chain of serene kettle lakes, hike the 23 miles of forested trails, fish the electric-motors-only lakes, stay overnight in a forested hillside family cabin, visit the park’s historic one-room Stanley Schoolhouse, or explore the Nature Center. Other facilities available for visitors include a campground, beach, and picnic shelters.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of various trades including masonry, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry
  • Working knowledge of radio communications and procedures
  • Working knowledge of appropriate safety precautions needed for a variety of repairs
  • Ability to use a variety of automotive, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical tools for routine maintenance and repair
  • Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of records
  • Ability to use a wide variety of hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment
  • Ability to work independently and provide self-motivation
  • Ability to read and follow guidelines and blueprints to complete construction projects
  • Be willing to travel with reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation

Nice To Haves

  • More technical/mechanical skills in areas such as vehicle and equipment mechanics, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC
  • Wide knowledge of a variety of tools and equipment to complete those tasks

Responsibilities

  • Manages vehicle & equipment maintenance records
  • Purchasing necessary repair parts and supplies
  • Performing repairs on a large amount of equipment
  • Completing building maintenance on numerous structures including guest cabins
  • Assists property management with the planning of maintenance projects
  • Supervises DOC Residents who would be tasked with assisting with maintenance and mechanical work
  • Makes sure that signs are produced by the incarcerated individuals to the Division of State Parks standards
  • Diagnose and repair various maintenance issues
  • Maintain service and maintenance records
  • Purchase required parts, tools, and supplies according to State policy
  • Repair buildings and structures
  • Assist with snow removal
