About The Position

The Maintenance Planner is responsible for planning all non-urgent work orders with detailed scope, job steps, required parts, tools, permits, and labor requirements. This role ensures compliance with Management of Change (MOC) and capital project requirements, assigns proper work order status, and documents reasoning within the CMMS. The planner verifies documentation and permits are current before scheduling work, follows up on incomplete tasks, and identifies planning gaps. A key focus is on eliminating lost time by ensuring work readiness, improving maintenance productivity, and optimizing technician utilization. The role also involves scoping work orders for clarity, verifying correct parts, and maintaining accurate spare parts inventory levels. Additionally, the Maintenance Planner creates and manages purchase requisitions, obtains necessary approvals, recommends inventory adjustments and cost-saving opportunities, and meets with suppliers to improve service and cost. They use the CMMS to plan, document, and track maintenance activities, maintain accurate work order notes, statuses, and history, and prepare weekly backlog reports. Data integrity is crucial to support reliability and decision-making. The role supports the development and sustainment of Reliability Maintenance programs, identifies and addresses root causes of planning and execution failures, and actively seeks cost reduction opportunities. Creating and updating equipment Bill of Materials (BOMs) and identifying ways to improve the planning function are also key responsibilities. The Maintenance Planner coordinates closely with maintenance, production, and other departments, communicates effectively with various stakeholders, and provides clear documentation, reports, and updates. Assistance to technicians and stepping into technical roles may be required. Secondary duties include supporting special projects, assisting the maintenance team during critical situations or staffing gaps, and coordinating preventive maintenance (PM) and repair work with production schedules.
