About The Position

The Maintenance Planner-Buyer plays a vital role in ensuring the efficiency and reliability of maintenance operations by organizing and scheduling maintenance activities, managing spare parts inventory, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. This position acts as a key contributor to equipment performance and reliability, working closely with maintenance and operations teams to align maintenance planning with production goals, safety standards, and long-term operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Mechanical Systems or Millwright Red Seal certification.
  • 3-4 years' experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • 2-3 years' experience as a maintenance planner
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and repair methods.
  • Advances working knowledge with CMMS, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access), and AutoCAD.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate maintenance planning and related meetings by preparing priorities, outage schedules and support continuous improvement through analysis of recurring equipment issues and failure trends.
  • Assign and coordinate PM and CM work orders with the maintenance team, ensuring instructions are clear and include OEM checklists where applicable, with required parts, materials, and labour resources (internal and external) available.
  • Develop and maintain weekly maintenance schedules and planned equipment outages, ensuring all tasks are fully prepared in advance.
  • Review equipment breakdowns with the team and follow up as required to:
  • Order necessary parts
  • Ensure all the Spares parts are registered in the inventory using CMMS
  • Send components for external repair (motors, machine shop work etc.)
  • Assess and adjust spare parts inventory levels
  • Enhance the Preventative Maintenance (PM) program by collaborating with operations to:
  • Prevent recurring breakdowns
  • Incorporate OEM recommendations
  • Optimize downtime during shutdowns and changeovers
  • Ensure timely completion of operator-assigned tasks
  • Plan and update work schedules for major equipment shutdowns, including:
  • PM and planned maintenance tasks
  • Assigned personnel and estimated task durations
  • Ensuring all required parts are in stock and ready before equipment shutdown.
  • Prepare regular reports, including weekly schedule compliance, downtime summaries, equipment failure investigations, and PM compliance.
  • Perform other duties as required.
