About The Position

Northland Properties, a 100% Canadian-owned company with over 50 years of experience in hospitality, is seeking a Maintenance Person for the Sandman Hotel Group. As Canada's fastest-growing hospitality group, we value our people and their dedication to guest service. This role is responsible for performing general building and property maintenance, including routine maintenance of pools, hot tubs, and the boiler room, servicing HVAC units, performing drywall repairs and painting, caulking, replacing light bulbs and fixtures, and responding to guest maintenance requests. The ideal candidate will be competent with hand and power tools and adhere to WHMIS Health and Safety Standards and Work Safe regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • 2 years of maintenance experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in the operation and maintenance of buildings.
  • Competent with using hand and power tools.
  • Work to a WHMIS Health and Safety Standard.
  • Personal protection equipment MUST be used in compliance with Work Safe regulations.
  • Ability to perform small repairs.
  • Familiarity with cleaning products.
  • Strong customer service orientation and skills.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Must have or be prepared to take Pool Operator's Course provided by AHS.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • Carpentry skills and refinishing wood preferred.
  • General knowledge of plumbing repairing.
  • General knowledge about heating units and air conditioners (PTAC units).

Responsibilities

  • Perform general building and property maintenance.
  • Conduct routine maintenance of pools, hot tubs, and the boiler room.
  • Service heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units.
  • Perform drywall repairs and painting.
  • Apply caulking and silicone as needed.
  • Replace light bulbs and fixtures.
  • Respond to guest maintenance requests.
  • Perform seasonal outdoor landscaping, including snow/ice removal, weed control, gutter cleaning, and sprinkler system maintenance.
  • Conduct regular property inspections of the hotel, including common areas, building exterior, and landscape.
  • Responsible for vandalism clean-up and repair within skill level.
  • Maintain heating and air conditioning systems, boilers, pumps, fan units, control panels, thermostats, cooling towers, etc.
  • Maintain working knowledge of environmental safeguards and alarm systems.
  • Maintain fire alarms and extinguishers.
  • Detect faulty operations, defective material and report unusual situations to the supervisor.
  • Prepare, paint, and decorate interior and exterior surfaces.
