Temporary Maintenance & Ops Assistant- Stevens Creek Nature Preserve
About The Position
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is adding a Temporary Maintenance & Operations Assistant to the East Region Nature Preserve Maintenance team! This position will work within our Nature Preserves and Natural Resources Division, and the successful candidate must be willing to work in all weather conditions in a wooded, natural setting where wildlife is a protected and valued resource. The incumbent will perform daily routine maintenance, such as general groundskeeping and custodial work. In addition, this position will perform minor facility repair, solve maintenance issues independently and provide excellent customer service at the Nature Preserve. This position will report to Stevens Creek Nature Preserve and will primarily work weekends. Evenings and holidays may be requested based on business needs. Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges
- General knowledge of applicable computer programs
Nice To Haves
- Light equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction
- Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to safe operation of this equipment
- Basic tools used in maintenance and construction work
- Operating a chainsaw and brush cutter, blowers, sweepers and other assigned equipment
- Performing heavy manual labor, sometimes in adverse weather conditions

Responsibilities
- Perform cleaning services to restrooms and indoor rental facilities
- Open park gates and remove trash
- Assists other maintenance staff in repair duties
- Perform general grounds keeping such as picking up trash and debris, remove limbs, blow leaves off sidewalks and greenways
- Perform general laborer-type work with equipment such as power mowers, chainsaws, brush cutter, edger and clippers, etc.
- Performs related work as required
