About The Position

The Maintenance Operator position supports the maintenance team by performing routine equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, lubrication, part replacement, and general upkeep of machinery throughout the lumber manufacturing operation. This is a hands-on position that plays an important role in keeping equipment safe, reliable, and operating efficiently. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, dependable, safety-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial environment.

  • Be able to assist others with training on equipment operation and basic maintenance procedures.

  • Demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Be willing to work in a fast-paced environment where production and equipment reliability are priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous maintenance, mechanical, industrial, or equipment-related experience or equivalent education/training.
  • An understanding of lumber manufacturing processes and production equipment.
  • Working knowledge of planer, sawmill, yard machinery, and related tools, including their design, uses, repair, and maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Millwrights with daily maintenance and repair activities.
  • Perform preventive maintenance according to established schedules.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain machines and machine components using cleaning solvents, cloths, air guns, hoses, vacuums, and other equipment.
  • Dismantle machines and remove parts for repair using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes, hoists, and other appropriate equipment.
  • Install, replace, and change machine parts and attachments according to production specifications.
  • Assist with repairing, relocating, or installing machines, machine parts, and equipment.
  • Lubricate machinery and apply adhesives or other materials according to established procedures.
  • Assist production operators with maintaining clean and safe workstations and surrounding areas.
  • Participate in action planning and continuous improvement activities.
  • Accurately track and record time worked and repair parts used through work orders and the maintenance management system.
  • Communicate equipment issues, maintenance needs, and potential problems to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Assist other maintenance and production team members as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
