About The Position

Within the Division of Capital Asset Management & Maintenance (DCAMM), to perform a full range of maintenance and moderately skilled trade tasks in areas such as carpentry, painting/masonry, minor electrical, plumbing, heating, masonry, road maintenance, landscaping, automotive/truck repairs, etc. at the Department of Administration facilities, grounds, and properties; and to do related work as required. Receives general directions and instructions from a superior with latitude for the exercise of independent judgment; work is reviewed on completion. May supervise staff and/or other workers.

Requirements

  • A working knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, equipment, and processes involved in trades related to general building and grounds maintenance.
  • A working knowledge of the operation of mechanical equipment.
  • A working knowledge of the use of common tools and materials.
  • The ability to make varied repairs without supervision.
  • The ability to supervise a small group of workers or volunteers.
  • The ability to work from pencil sketches and diagrams.
  • A level of computer literacy, the ability to communicate via email, and to receive and close work orders through a work order software system.
  • A minimum of 2 years of high school.
  • Employment as a journeyman tradesman.
  • At least two years in the field of building and grounds maintenance or a related field, with experience in landscaping, general maintenance, and at least two of the building, minor electrical or mechanical trades.
  • Any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.
  • Must be physically qualified to perform assigned duties as evidenced by a physician's certificate.
  • Must possess a current driver license.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a full range of maintenance and moderately skilled trade tasks in areas such as carpentry, painting/masonry, minor electrical, plumbing, heating, masonry, road maintenance, landscaping, automotive/truck repairs, etc. at the Department of Administration facilities, grounds, and properties.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks at facilities and properties owned by or under the control of the Department of Administration, including but not limited to mowing lawns, raking, picking up trash, moving furniture, brush cutting, planting shrubs, transplanting, cutting, and pruning.
  • Maintain power-driven machinery such as washers, extractors, refrigeration units, air compressors, pumps, and other necessary equipment in good condition.
  • Operate and make repairs of light equipment and vehicles such as automobiles, trucks, tractors, mowing machinery, chainsaws, and related equipment, as assigned.
  • Maintain heating, steam, water, electric, signal, refrigeration, and gas systems.
  • Perform tasks requiring the operation of welding and cutting apparatus, and perform tasks involving maintenance of power plant and sewage plant machinery.
  • At frequent intervals inspect buildings, structures, and utilities, noting their condition and necessity for repair and report those findings to supervisors.
  • Perform snow removal, to include shoveling, plowing, and salt sanding before, during and after weather events.
  • Respond to emergency situations on and off shift as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
