About The Position

JD Sweid Foods is seeking a Maintenance Millwright to join their team. This role is crucial for keeping a high-performing food manufacturing operation running safely and efficiently. The company has a long history, starting in 1917 and growing into one of Canada's largest privately owned value-added protein providers, with facilities in Waterloo, ON and Langley, BC. Requirements

  • Ideally have 4th Class Power Engineer with minimum 2 years' operating experience.
  • Millwright (apprentice level 2 above) or over 3 years mechanic experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical and utility systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.
  • Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team-oriented with solid communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in food manufacturing or industrial environments is an asset.
  • A working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) is often required or beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting power transmission systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems operated in a refrigerated food manufacturing environment, ensuring the mechanical integrity and continuous, safe operation of all production equipment.
  • Following established food safety and quality procedures.
  • Performing routine, preventative maintenance (PM) checks, lubrication, adjustments, and complex repairs on all production equipment.
  • Quickly diagnosing mechanical failures in production equipment like conveyors, mixers, tumblers, grinders, pumps, motors, refrigeration units and packaging machinery.
  • Installing, assembling, dismantling, realigning, and moving stationary industrial machinery according to blueprints and manufacturer specifications.
  • Working on power transmission systems, and increasingly, on associated hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Suggesting improvements to the process and equipment.
  • Documenting work activities in the daily logbook and Megamation.
  • Entering work orders in Megamation for tasks encountered on shift and completing work orders with pertinent comments.
  • Utilizing CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) to document maintenance activities and repairs.
  • Consistently demonstrating Teamwork, Integrity, Performance-Driven, and Solution-Oriented behavior.
  • Maintaining a respectful, inclusive, and professional work environment.
  • Collaborating well with colleagues, ensuring clear, professional, and timely communication.
  • Adhering to all Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) standards, LOTO, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP principles, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Actively participating in all assigned safety and compliance training.
  • Demonstrating reliability through consistent attendance and strict adherence to all organizational policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Completing additional duties as assigned to support team and organizational objectives.
