About The Position

The Maintenance Millwright is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and replacing or installing a broad range of mechanical equipment and support systems. This role supports base construction and maintenance activities. The position requires adherence to the highest quality standards in all installations, moving materials and equipment to work locations, and setting up work sites. The Millwright will also be responsible for identifying proper materials, submitting requisitions, and following up on their receipt. A key aspect of this role is observing and following all safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal safety equipment. The skills for this position are acquired through Certification as Journeyman Millwright and 7-10 years of experience.

  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to understand information, ideas, direction and then can perform the task or project discussed.
  • Ability to ask questions to insure you understand the information given.
  • 7-10 years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and lubricate machines and equipment.
  • Assemble and install equipment, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Position steel beams to support bedplates of machines and equipment, using blueprints and schematic drawings, to determine work procedures.
  • Insert shims, adjust tension on nuts and bolts, or position parts, using hand tools and measuring instruments, to set specified clearances between moving and stationary parts.
  • Move machinery and equipment, using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
  • Attach moving parts and subassemblies to basic assembly unit, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Assemble machines, and bolt, weld, rivet, or otherwise fasten them to foundation or other structures, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Lay out mounting holes, using measuring instruments, and drill holes with power drill.
  • Bolt parts, such as side and deck plates, jaw plates, and journals, to basic assembly unit.
  • Align pump/motor shafts using precision dial indicator and/or laser instruments.
  • Level bedplate and establish centreline, using straightedge, levels, and transit.
  • Dismantle machines, using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools.
  • Shrink-fit bushings, sleeves, rings, liners, gears, and wheels to specified items, using portable gas heating equipment.
  • Dismantle machinery and equipment for shipment to installation site, usually performing installation and maintenance work as part of team.
  • Construct foundation for machines, using hand tools and building materials such as wood, cement, and steel.
  • Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards.
  • Monitor work progression to ensure compliance to codes & standards.
  • Perform all other job-related duties as requested by supervisor.
  • Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, hammers, welding equipment, micrometers and laser alignment tools.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance such as checking and changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
  • Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
  • Weld broken equipment, parts, pipe and structural steel.
  • Attach test instruments to equipment, and read dials and gauges to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain mechanical equipment and machinery such as pumps, gearboxes, compressors, valves, and piping that is associated with it.
  • Responsible for changing and installing new equipment such as pumps, gearboxes and valves.
  • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment.
  • Follow established job-site safety and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work area.
  • Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
  • Read and understand equipment schematic drawings along with associated plans and specifications.
