About The Position

To maintain plant facility and equipment by using resources and tools available. This role involves monitoring equipment, performing rebuilds, ensuring proper operation of various systems, and contributing to process improvements. The position also requires performing preventative maintenance, completing necessary paperwork, operating equipment as needed, maintaining Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), training co-workers, and performing leadership roles as required. Employees are expected to adhere to all operational policies, safety rules, and manufacturing practices, and to report any food safety or quality issues.

Requirements

  • General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • One to three month related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English, and interpret documents such as specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to calculate figures and add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals and percentages.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to use a computer and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to obtain forklift certification.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor equipment and machinery to identify parts that may be about to fail or break down.
  • Lubricate equipment and machinery as required.
  • Rebuild all process equipment within the plant.
  • Ensure proper operation of boilers, equipment and compressors for safety.
  • Ensure proper electrical integrity of systems.
  • Monitor processes to identify areas of opportunity for improvement.
  • Improve processing and packaging systems throughout plant to increase efficiencies.
  • Perform special projects as required.
  • Fabricate and rebuild equipment or machinery as required.
  • Identify needed repairs.
  • Utilize all maintenance tools, equipment and materials appropriately.
  • Ensure that repairs are cost effective.
  • Make repairs in a timely manner.
  • Follow GMP's when making repairs.
  • Identify possible trouble areas for preventative maintenance.
  • Lube equipment and machinery as required for preventative maintenance.
  • Adjust equipment and machinery as required for preventative maintenance.
  • Correct causes and problems identified during preventative maintenance.
  • Identify causes of premature breakdowns.
  • Complete log entries.
  • Complete parts usage sheets.
  • Fill out work orders for work completed or needed.
  • Fill out parts orders.
  • Complete daily shift reports.
  • Operate equipment to check for needed repairs or check for repairs made.
  • Drive forklifts and trucks as needed, following all safety rules.
  • Perform both on-going and week-ending sanitation duties as required.
  • Ensure cleaning procedures are followed.
  • Use proper cleaning/sanitizing chemical-handling procedures and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean work area; keep floors swept, brooms, squeegees, etc. in proper place. Empty trash cans/bins as needed.
  • Responsible for addressing potential food safety and quality issues of the product.
  • Maintain personal cleanliness, wash hands frequently, wear hairnet, wear sanitary gloves.
  • Avoid storing chemicals too close to food products.
  • Avoid spilling oil or cleaning fluids on food products.
  • Follow color code policy.
  • Follow proper procedures, practices and training.
  • Be familiar with all process flow diagrams.
  • Know all critical control points in all processes.
  • Exchange information and procedures on reading and interpreting equipment manuals.
  • Train co-workers in correct trouble shooting procedures.
  • Instruct operators in correct operation, using theory and GMP practices.
  • Insure operators are operating equipment correctly.
  • Perform job functions and conduct self in a confident and professional manner.
  • Suggest correct required procedures to co-worker.
  • Inform Supervisor on a timely basis all operational problems encountered and what action was taken to resolve the problems with recommendations to prevent reoccurrences.
  • Document operation trouble spots to corrective action.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner, working safely, taking precautions in preventing product and/or equipment damages and losses, cooperating with co-workers and maintaining good housekeeping practices at all times.
