About The Position

Works under general supervision to perform various repair and maintenance work and perform other generalized duties in the operation of county facilities.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience as a maintenance mechanic
  • High school diploma or possess a GED.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must be able to work in a jail environment.
  • General knowledge of the practices and procedures of maintenance and construction.
  • General knowledge of wood tools and instruments and their maintenance and use.
  • Ability to read and work from blueprints.
  • Ability to perform a variety of carpentry duties.
  • Ability to replace and repair non-complex electrical installations.
  • Knowledge of painting techniques and use of painting materials and equipment.
  • Ability to replace and repair non-complex plumbing installations.

Responsibilities

  • Replaces defective electrical switches and other fixtures, including changing ballasts with the power off.
  • Paints walls, floors, woodwork, and fixtures of buildings using spray guns, rollers, and brushes.
  • Repairs and replaces gauges, valves, faucets, complete flush valves, pressure regulators, and open clogged drains using plumbers’ tools.
  • Replaces and repairs brick and plaster walls.
  • Makes and repairs counters, benches, partitions, and other wooden structures using saws, braces, bits, and other carpenters’ tools.
  • Performs minor welding jobs.
  • Performs other related duties as required or directed.
