About The Position

As a Maintenance Mechanic/Machinist, reporting to the Plant Engineer, you will be responsible for performing proactive maintenance tasks to ensure high-quality, efficient production and timely shipment of products. This role requires the ability to work with machining equipment and respond effectively to maintenance issues. A strong work ethic, focus on safety, quality, and productivity are key cultural elements at Sonoco.

Requirements

  • Experience in an industrial environment or military experience troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining manufacturing equipment.
  • Comfortable with mechanical lifts, ladders, kneeling, bending and twisting; lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Working independently and managing multiple tasks in an off-shift position with rotating shifts that will require overtime including weekends.
  • Must be able to work well with others while also being able to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems.
  • Able to perform electrical and mechanical troubleshooting.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting, industrial and motor controls a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Installing and maintaining auxiliary equipment as required by production.
  • Maintaining and repairing utility and facility-related equipment as directed by the Plant Engineer.
  • Assisting/training other maintenance personnel with repairs, PM’s, and rebuilds.
  • Collaborating closely with other departments and teams for proactive problem resolutions.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean and organized work area.
  • Managing small projects to maintain or upgrade equipment.
  • Performing all duties in support of Sonoco’s quality and safety policies.
  • Fabricating basic machine parts and rebuilding rotating equipment, including pumps, gear boxes, etc.
  • Working with electrical systems and checking fuses, circuit breakers, overloads, etc.
  • Performing electrical and mechanical troubleshooting.
