About The Position

Performs general maintenance and preventative / predictive maintenance on a variety of blowmold and injection, auxiliary and plant support equipment. Individual is required to apply knowledge either gained on-the-job or previous experience of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic theory and procedure to trouble shoot, perform preventative maintenance and complete necessary repairs. The overall goal is to assist in minimizing downtime due to breakdown repairs and PM’s as well as optimize the quality of products manufactured to the highest degree.

Requirements

• High school diploma or graduate of vo-tech program preferred
• Completed all requirements of Mold Technician or prove previous experience as a Maintenance Mechanic in a Manufacturing environment
• Lift / push / pull up to 100 pounds 50 feet using a hydraulic hand jack (this is the equivalent of a static push / pull of approximately 70 pounds).
• Maximum frequent lifting weight of 75 pounds from ground to 6 feet overhead.
• Occasional frequency of lifting up to 100 pounds from ground to 6 feet overhead.
• Maximum frequent carrying weight of 60 pounds for 10 feet.
• Employees are required to stand / walk for up to 11 hours per shift on a concrete floor.
• Employees must be able to work 12-hour shifts day or nights, including weekends and holidays.
• Employees are required to bend; turn / twist; kneel; squat; crawl; climb; reach out and up; turn wrist; grasp; pinch; and have finger manipulations.
• Continuously wear hearing and eye protection, as well as protective clothing including steel toe shoes.
• Must wear hard hats during operation of cranes or man-lifts.
• Supplies own tools sufficient to perform maintenance tasks in the disciplines of the scope needed to perform assigned duties. This includes basic electrical test tools, industrial hand tools, air tools, hand tools, plumbing tools, welding tools, and specialty tools needed for specific job tasks in blow molding and injection, and mold repair / maintenance.
• Must also supply own toolbox to adequately secure tools.
• Ability to recognize and understand numbers and values related to job functions.
• Ability to visually and mentally make priority decisions / judgement calls based on the situation at hand.
• Proficient hand / eye coordination to operate equipment and assemble packaging for shipment.
• Ability to communicate clearly.
• Ability to efficiently and effectively use a computer and related software related to record keeping and machine troubleshooting / maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Apply knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic theory and procedure in maintenance and repair of blowmold and injection, auxiliary and support equipment.
• Apply knowledge of machines and processes for blowmold, injection, drying apparatus, mechanical systems, and construction to analyze, set-up and maintain equipment for safe and continuous operation.
• Read electrical schematics and identify symbols and control circuits with a reasonable degree of competency, including understanding and troubleshooting PLC program and logic.
• Troubleshoot electrical circuits with a reasonable degree of accuracy.
• Perform installation of PLCs, change motors, install relays and starters, and install control circuits.
• Read hydraulic schematics and identify symbols and control circuits with a reasonable degree of competency.
• Troubleshoot a hydraulic circuit with a reasonable degree of accuracy.
• Perform maintenance on all types of equipment represented in the plant with a reasonable degree of skill and competency.
• Perform maintenance on refrigeration, drying, conveying, fluid pumps, blowing and vacuum pumps, pneumatic circuits, and welding/fabrication.
• Follow all established safety rules and guidelines.
• Understand and communicate all hazards and safety issues to co-workers and Supervisors.
• Properly use all required personal protective equipment.
• Perform other related duties as directed by the Maintenance Manager to ensure the smooth and orderly operation of finished product movement in the area assigned.
• Shut down/stop equipment if continued operation is a threat to any employee’s health and safety (with authorized training).
• Recommend staff stop production for unacceptable quality.
• Recommend staff quarantine out-of-specification products, materials or supplies.
• Contact any member of Management without fear of reprisal concerning questions, suggestions, or complaints regarding quality, working conditions or job environment.
