About The Position

Perform preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance and make repairs to production equipment and facilities. This role involves using manufacturer's manuals, drawings, and blueprints to maintain and repair production equipment. The mechanic will perform mechanical and light electrical maintenance (56 volts and under), complete daily work orders using a CMMS, and adhere to safety lockout/tag out procedures. Responsibilities also include requesting spare parts, understanding lubrication techniques (especially food-grade), assisting with machinery setups and changeovers, suggesting process improvements, creating corrective work orders during daily walkthroughs, and assisting in the creation or modification of preventive maintenance task lists.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years maintenance mechanic experience in a food manufacturing operation.
  • Experience troubleshooting basic electrical failures.
  • A basic understanding of the operation and troubleshooting of a PLC.
  • Troubleshooting, replacement/repair of mechanical drives and gear boxes.
  • Experience with conveyors and material handling equipment.
  • Experience with metal detector operation, calibration.
  • Experience with combustion-based food processing equipment such as oil and dry roasters.
  • Experience using manual or computerized maintenance work order systems.
  • Ability to read manufacturer’s service manual, blueprints, and parts manuals.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with department supervisors and engineering.
  • Written skills in completing work orders, purchase requests and time sheets in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic welding experience is desirable but not a requirement.
  • Additional trade school course work is desirable but not a requirement.
  • Should possess a cooperative and team-based mindset when problem solving.
  • Possess the skills and the ability to do it “by the book” but also have the ability to be creative when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Use manufacturer's manuals, drawings, and blueprints to perform maintenance and repairs to production equipment.
  • Perform mechanical and light electrical maintenance and repair (56 volts and under) to production and facility related equipment.
  • Complete daily work orders describing work completed, labor hours, and parts used using the CMMS.
  • Understand and follow safety lockout / tag out procedures when performing equipment repairs.
  • Use manufacturer's manuals, drawings, and blueprints to request spare parts and repair parts.
  • Understand and use proper lubrication techniques, paying particular attention to food grade oils and greases in food processing areas.
  • Assist the production departments in performing machinery setups and changeovers as required.
  • Suggest ways to improve the processes.
  • In daily walkthroughs, make CMMS corrective work orders as you discover corrective work to be planned.
  • Assist in the creation or modification of preventive maintenance task lists to continually improve the process.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
