About The Position

Sonoco is a global leader in packaging solutions, founded in 1899. We are seeking a Maintenance Mechanic for our Paper plant in Richmond, Virginia. This facility produces finished paperboard from recycled paper material. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of quality workmanship, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work effectively with co-workers and management. This role is crucial for the safe and efficient performance of all duties within the plant.

Requirements

• Must have a proven record of success in a fast-paced environment.
• Must take pride in personal hands-on and analytical abilities, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
• Must own your own tools.
• Must be willing to complete all tasks assigned by management.
• Must be willing to work overtime, including weekends.
• Must be willing to work alternating weekends, some holidays, and be available to answer call-ins on a rotating basis.

Nice To Haves

• 2-year Associate Degree in Industrial Maintenance or related field
• At least 3 - 5 years minimum work experience in Industrial Maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Knowledge of process equipment used in a Paper Mill.
• Maintain and troubleshoot issues with mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
• Extensive understanding of rigging.
• Precisely install couplings, bearings, pumps, rolls, motors, gearboxes, and other mechanical equipment using state-of-the-art alignment tools.
• Strong metalworking skills including cutting and welding for fabricating.
• Knowledge of hydraulics and fitting is a plus.
• Maintain a strong background in preventative maintenance.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
• Be a team player.
