Under the supervision of an FOM Maintenance Supervisor, maintains, inspects and repairs chilled water, high pressure steam, domestic and heating hot water and medical gas systems, glassware washers, kitchen equipment, and other mechanical equipment/systems such as pumps, motors, gearboxes, variable frequency drives, fans, air handling units, air compressors, etc. May lead, train and assist Maintenance Helpers. Duties may include operation and maintenance of the hospital’s medical infectious waste incinerator, deionized and RO water systems and pneumatic tube systems, making up equipment electrical connections, minor locksmithing, welding and fabrication of metal components, changing light bulbs and fluorescent tubes, and other duties required to achieve the department's mission. Performs routine preventive and corrective maintenance on a variety of mechanical equipment and systems in hospital, administrative, and medical research facilities, including rebuilding existing equipment and installation, testing and startup of new equipment. Responds to unscheduled equipment failures and performs emergency shutdown and/or start-up procedures to ensure continuity of operation for critical systems. Works independently, with other mechanics, or with other crafts, or with contractor personnel to quickly and efficiently perform routine and emergency maintenance procedures in a fast paced, high volume work environment. Uses hand and power tools to fabricate, repair and trouble shoot mechanical systems. Accurately use job related equipment to perform quantity work by specification, Accurately uses job-related tools and equipment to perform quality work, accurately measure parts and equipment for duplication or fabrication, accurately measures parts and equipment for duplication or fabrication, accurately trouble-shoots mechanical equipment using appropriate analysis methods, and accurately troubleshoot related mechanical equipment. Reads and interprets job related schematics and drawings and manufacturer’s operations and maintenance manuals. Adheres to institutional and departmental administrative and safety policies and procedures. Operates and maintains the hospital’s medical infectious waste incinerator, deionized water and reverse osmosis water systems. May be called upon to perform minor locksmithing duties. When requested, and under direction of appropriate supervision, assists in performing maintenance on autoclaves and process equipment in assigned facilities. Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution. Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
