About The Position

Under general supervision, perform a variety of repair, maintenance, installation, and related services involving heating, air conditioning, ventilation, pumping, pipes and fittings, and other similar facility mechanical operating systems. This role involves receiving, assessing, and organizing work assignments, participating in repair, maintenance, and/or installation activities, and identifying parts, equipment, material, and supply needs. The position also requires coordinating scheduling and work activities with other trades, vendors, contractors, and departments, as well as reviewing and inspecting work in progress and completed work. Maintaining files, records, reports, and logs, and ensuring the cleanliness of tools, equipment, and work areas are also key aspects of this role. Depending on the area of assignment, duties may include changing filters, balancing air or water flow, maintaining pumps, repairing or replacing filters, valves, lines or pipes, motors, and other items. Specific tasks can include maintaining bar screens, industrial compressors, blowers, oxygen production units, clarifier units, digesters, sludge drags, chain sprockets, grit collectors, and other units required in water or wastewater treatment. Troubleshooting and performing routine, preventative, or emergency maintenance on baggage belts, jet bridges, air handlers, gas or electric water heaters, HVAC units, water coolers, commercial and industrial motor controls, pneumatic controls, plumbing, and other items is also expected. The role may involve assisting in training new employees and performing duties of subordinate personnel or others as necessary to ensure continuity of operations during absences. Lead worker responsibilities may be assigned. Interaction with supervisors, vendors, contractors, other departments, coworkers, or the general public is expected, including answering questions, providing accurate information, and assisting in resolving problems.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, or higher
  • Two (2) years of heating, air conditioning, building trades, or construction experience.
  • MOS Code: 120A (Army), 21B4W (Air Force), 017 (Coast Guard), 1161 (Marine Corps)

Nice To Haves

  • Some positions may require a valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or a Class "B" Commercial Driver's License by date of appointment.
  • Some positions may require a Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License with Hazmat Endorsement within eighteen (18) months of appointment.
  • Some positions may require Refrigerant Transition and Recovery certification and/or other appropriate EPA and State of Texas certification(s) relevant to the department within six (6) months of the date of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repair, maintenance, and/or installation of systems within the specific area of assignment.
  • Receive, assess, and organize work assignments.
  • Participate in repair, maintenance, and/or installation activities.
  • Identify parts, equipment, material, and supply needs and deliver supplies or fill chemical tanks as required, including chlorine tanks.
  • Coordinate scheduling and work activities with other trades, vendors, contractors, departments, and/or others.
  • Review/assess/inspect work in progress and completed work.
  • Maintain files, records, reports, and logs.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of tools, equipment, and work areas.
  • Perform a variety of hands-on general or specific maintenance tasks.
  • Utilize standard and specialized tools, materials, and/or other equipment.
  • Change filters, balance air or water flow, maintain pumps, repair/replace filters, valves, lines or pipes, motors, and/or other items.
  • Maintain bar screens, industrial compressors, blowers, oxygen production units, clarifier units, digesters, sludge drags, chain sprockets, grit collectors, and other units required in the treatment of water or wastewater.
  • Troubleshoot and perform routine, preventative, or emergency maintenance on baggage belts, jet bridges, and air handlers, gas or electric water heaters, HVAC units, water coolers, commercial and industrial motor controls, pneumatic controls, plumbing, and/or other items.
  • Assist in training new employees.
