About The Position

This role is responsible for maintaining the facility in a safe, clean, and sanitary manner, ensuring the highest level of customer service for residents. The position involves a variety of tasks related to building maintenance, groundskeeping, and adherence to department policies and procedures. The Maintenance Mechanic is expected to take ownership of the facility's condition and cleanliness, participate in cost control measures, and uphold Eldercare of Bemidji's reputation.

Requirements

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Experience with floor care and other janitorial equipment.
  • Genuine liking and respect for the elderly and physically and mentally challenged.
  • Ability to work independently and with supervision.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Follow daily cleaning schedule and department policies and procedures to ensure tile floors/carpeted areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner.
  • Perform stripping, waxing, and buffing of tile floors and document waxing times to assure continuity of floor maintenance program.
  • Empty trash containers and replace burned out bulbs.
  • Perform other routine maintenance tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Assist in the care of the grounds, including removal of snow from walks, away from doors and parking areas; mowing grass; clipping hedges and hauling dirt for gardens.
  • Inform supervisor if supplies need to be ordered.
  • Attend in-service as directed by the supervisor.
  • Participate in and promote resident rounds.
  • Take ownership in the condition and cleanliness of the facility.
  • Help maintain the facility in a safe and clean manner by picking up debris on the floors and wiping up spills.
  • Be aware of role in disaster plans for the facility.
  • Report the need for repairs to the supervisor.
  • Follow established chain of command concerning department and facility business.
  • Present a neat appearance (good hygiene, clean uniform, etc.) and wear name badge at all times.
  • Understand that he/she represents Eldercare of Bemidji in every exchange and strives to do so in a positive manner.
  • Understand that excellent customer service is the highest form of public relations and his/her role in providing the highest level of customer service.
  • Understand and observe the need for strict resident confidentiality.
  • Offer resolution of or a visit from the appropriate individual who may offer resolution of any dislikes or concerns and communicates these actions to the supervisor.
  • Proactively encourage and support residents’ rights.
  • Understand and comply with the responsibilities of a mandated reporter for vulnerable adults.
  • Participate in control of costs through proper use of equipment, appropriate use of supplies and effective, efficient organization of duties.
  • Understand the correlation between census and income and that expenses must be reduced in times of low census including adjustment of staff hours.
