Position Overview The Truck Mechanic performs routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair procedures on facility transportation tractors and equipment, with a focus on semi-trucks and associated trailers and containers. This individual will report directly to the Fleet Maintenance Manager.

Requirements

  • 2 years’ work experience in a similar role in a similar industry, with a strong mechanical background
  • Must possess basic reading and writing skills in English; ability to understand detailed instructions and repair manuals in English
  • Physical strength, diagnostic skill, manual dexterity and the ability to work in noisy environments are key traits
  • Must work effectively independently as well as on teams
  • Must be skilled at welding, electrical work, and hydraulics
  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule and be available “on call” for urgent matters
  • Must own basic set of tools to be used on site
  • Must have the ability to perform the physical tasks of the job such as working in elevated and difficult positions as well as frequent walking, bending, standing and frequent lifting of 50-75 lbs.
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions such as extreme heat or cold, dusty, dirty and/or wet conditions
  • Candidate must pass a pre-employment physical, background and credit check
  • Able to fulfill flexible scheduling requirements as determined by the manager and / or business needs of the operation

Responsibilities

  • Ensures proper preventive maintenance procedures are followed and executed per DOT standards, while maintaining all equipment in good working order
  • Provides mechanical maintenance information by filling out appropriate documentation
  • Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information
  • Conserves resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results in the most cost-effective manner
  • Maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures
  • Facilitates a safe and clean work environment
  • May obtain estimates for supplies, repair parts and orders parts as needed
  • Performs preventive maintenance procedures on equipment on a scheduled basis: inspects belts, checks fluid levels, replaces filters, greases bearings, seals, etc.; repairs or replaces broken parts
  • Works quickly and efficiently to meet department and company goals while adhering to all company health and safety policies
  • Performs minor repairs of rotating and reciprocating equipment
  • Assembles, dissembles, removes, installs, cleans and lubricates, as needed, shafts, bearings, gears, pulleys and other hydraulic, pneumatic, or mechanical parts of machines
  • Repairs or replaces gauges, valves, regulators and other components of hydraulic, pneumatic and other fluid powered equipment or mechanical systems
  • Performs work per company priorities and documented procedures; records work performed and materials used
  • Must possess skills to repair the following type of equipment: tractors, trailers, portable baler and all transportation containers (roll offs, lugger boxes)
  • Inspects, diagnoses and repairs brake systems, engines, electrical components, steering systems, transmissions and tires
  • Performs diagnostic tests for routine maintenance procedures and determines a course of action for damaged parts and systems
  • Repairs malfunctioning components, changes brakes, adjusts steering systems, replaces worn-out parts and changes hydraulic fluids
  • Uses computerized equipment along with welding torches, pneumatic wrenches, hydraulic jacks, screwdrivers, pliers, mallets and precision gauges
  • Test drives trucks before and after repairs
  • Must demonstrate competency in all aspects of the job and company objectives
  • Demonstrate understanding of company policies, rules and trainings
