About The Position

This position performs skilled maintenance and repair to support the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of campus facilities. The role is responsible for installing, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems, as well as performing preventive maintenance on equipment and infrastructure. The incumbent ensures facilities and systems operate in compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory standards, while responding to service requests and participating in on-call operations to address urgent maintenance needs.

Requirements

  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for multiple trades or a high school diploma and 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.
  • Must have a background check.
  • May require a credit check in conjunction with the University's policy.
  • Designated as a "Responsible Employee" pursuant to their role under Title IX.
  • Must promptly report allegations of sexual misconduct, sexual violence, and child sexual abuse by or against any student, employee, contractor, or visitor to the University’s Title IX Administrator or any divisional Title IX Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, alter, and repair plumbing fixtures and systems, including sinks, faucets, showers, toilets, urinals, drinking fountains, hot water heaters, and valves.
  • Install and repair galvanized, PVC, CPVC, and copper pipes for potable water supplies and hot/cold water supply lines for fixtures.
  • Use proper pipe connection procedures, such as soldering copper pipes and fittings, and check for leaks.
  • Unstop, repair, and replace sanitary drain lines, and operate electric drain routing machines.
  • Install, maintain, alter, and repair electrical systems (under and above ground), conduit, external and interior light fixtures, power appliances, light machinery, electrical controls, transformers, outlets, and computer/telephone cables and circuits.
  • Replace ballasts and bulbs in light fixtures.
  • Troubleshoot and repair power and lighting circuits.
  • Install, maintain, and adjust campus refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, and ventilation equipment and ductwork.
  • Evacuate and recharge air conditioning systems with refrigerants.
  • Remove, overhaul, and replace compressors, condensers, etc.
  • Inform supervisor of repair parts and materials needed for requisition.
  • Inspect, clean, and replace filters for HVAC units in compliance with EPA certification.
  • Lubricate electric motors.
  • Inspect campus emergency generators, make minor field adjustments, and report major malfunctions.
  • Check all elevators.
  • Properly and safely operate equipment.
  • Check all equipment and vehicles.
  • Follow all established and recommended procedures for the safe and effective operation of equipment.
  • Adhere to federal, state, local, campus, and departmental safety regulations.
  • Stay alert for safety violations by other employees and report all unsafe situations immediately to supervisor or higher authority.
  • Take immediate action to personally stop unsafe acts if delay to inform supervisor may allow an accident to occur.
  • Participate in on-call rotation.
  • Respond as a Tier 2 respondent for designated campus emergencies and events, making every effort to return to campus when directed.
