About The Position

The Maintenance Mechanic supports safe, reliable vessel and facility operations by performing preventive maintenance, repairs, and upkeep on mechanical, electrical, propulsion, and related systems. Reporting to the Port Engineer, this role maintains critical equipment, troubleshoots issues, supports vendor maintenance, and helps ensure operational readiness and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

• Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Must be able to pass pre-employment and ongoing random drug and alcohol screenings.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a mechanic capacity performing maintenance, troubleshooting, and assisting with equipment repairs.
• Ability to diagnose mechanical issues and perform preventive maintenance on a variety of marine equipment and vessel systems.
• Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and maintenance procedures.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as operational needs require.
• May be required to apply for a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).

Nice To Haves

• Technical or vocational training in marine mechanics, diesel technology, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience working with diesel engines is preferred.
• Experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems is preferred.
• Basic plumbing experience, including the installation and repair of plumbing components, is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on diesel engines, electrical generation systems, mechanical equipment, and auxiliary systems to ensure safe and reliable vessel operation.
• Inspect, test, maintain, and repair vessel electrical systems and components, including automatic controls, batteries, alarm systems, and related equipment.
• Perform routine facility maintenance, repairs, and inspections on boats, buildings, docks, work areas, utilities, fixtures, and related equipment to support safe and efficient daily operations.
• Troubleshoot and complete basic repairs involving plumbing, electrical, lighting, doors, hardware, pumps and general facility systems as needed.
• Assist in maintaining inventory of parts, materials, tools, and supplies to support uninterrupted maintenance operations.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance shop and work environment, ensuring equipment and work areas remain in good condition throughout each shift.
• Respond to facility maintenance requests in a timely manner, prioritize repairs based on operational needs, and communicate status updates to the Port Engineer or appropriate department leads.
• Demonstrate safe work practices, professionalism, teamwork, and a commitment to providing excellent service while contributing to the efficient operation of the fleet.
