About The Position

The NC Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) is seeking a Maintenance/Construction Technician III for its Engineering Division. This role is responsible for the daily planning, development, implementation, and communication of all building maintenance issues. The Engineering Services Division directs, plans, and manages all engineering-related projects for the NCWRC, including in-house design, permitting, construction, capital improvements, and facilities management. The NCWRC Headquarters is recognized as one of the state’s first sustainable designed buildings, and this position will ensure that maintenance activities align with the agency's sustainability mission.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid NC Driver’s License within 90 days of employment.
  • Ability to perform manual labor, lifting medium to heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds daily.
  • Ability to wear safety equipment and follow established safety regulations and procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the methods, practices, and materials used in general maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery.
  • Experience using tools required in various technically complex trades.
  • Experience working with employees, architects, engineers, and contractors.
  • Experience in carpentry, drywall repair, painting, and/or industrial HVAC equipment.
  • Experience in grounds maintenance such as but not limited to: mowing, string trimming, removing yard debris/waste, brush cutting, tree care, planting grass seed, and applying herbicides.
  • May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled work in the maintenance and repair of facilities involving complex trade specialties, such as carpentry, plumbing, roofing, electrical work, and painting.
  • Inspect the work of contractual labor such as cleaning crews and contractual maintenance personnel.
  • Implement the preventative maintenance plan, to include routine inspections for equipment (such as fire extinguishers, HVAC equipment, and generators).
  • Maintain the grounds and landscaping, to include mowing, trimming bushes and trees, weed eating and spraying.
  • Work independently in performing tasks assigned by the Maintenance/Construction Project Manager.
  • Assess facility maintenance issues and determine if the situation requires escalation.
  • Review cleaning supplies and techniques to assure proper protocol is being followed by contractors performing the work, ensuring alignment with sustainability mission.
