About The Position

Hiland Dairy Foods Co., LLC is currently accepting applications for a Maintenance Mechanic in our Norfolk plant. This role is responsible for the repair and maintenance of mechanical, air, electrical, and hydraulic components of various equipment, including processing, blow molding, filling, and material handling equipment. The mechanic will work with systems such as boilers, refrigeration, hydraulics, air, and electrical systems within the dairy plant. This position requires the ability to work in demanding environmental conditions and perform physical tasks associated with repairs and maintenance.

Requirements

  • Experience with 3-phase wiring, electrical controls, and programmable controllers.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting abilities.
  • Familiarity with ammonia systems used for refrigeration.
  • Ability to work 10-hour shifts, with potential for overtime.
  • Availability to work night shift.
  • Ability to work in environments exceeding 100 degrees F and down to 20 degrees below zero, in wet and humid conditions for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, crawl, climb, squat, and work above head and at ground level.
  • Ability to keep work area safe and clean.
  • Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to follow blueprints, wiring diagrams, and service manuals.
  • Ability to fill out written reports.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowing how to arc, tig and mig weld.

Responsibilities

  • Work with and understand boilers, refrigeration, hydraulic, air, electrical, and other systems in the dairy plant.
  • Repair and maintain mechanical, air, electrical and hydraulic components of various equipment such as processing, blow molding, filling and material handling equipment, following blueprints, wiring diagrams and specifications and using hand tools, power tools, welders and precision measuring instruments.
  • Visually inspect and listen to machines and equipment to locate causes of malfunctions.
  • Dismantle machines and equipment to gain access to problem areas using hand tools and power tools.
  • Inspect and measure parts to detect wear, misalignment, or other problems.
  • Remove and replace worn or defective parts of drive mechanisms or hydraulic systems, using hand tools and power tools, and following blueprints, diagrams, and service manuals.
  • Realign and adjust components, hydraulic pipes on machines, and measure, cut, thread, and install new pipes.
  • Start machines and equipment to test operation following repair.
  • Repair broken parts using brazing, soldering, and welding equipment and hand tools.
  • Modify computer-controlled functions on various equipment.
  • Work in both very hot (more than 100 degrees F) and very cold (20 degrees below zero) in a very wet and humid environment for extended periods of time.
  • Bend, crawl, climb, squat, and work on times both above the head and at ground level during repair and maintenance operations.
  • Keep work area safe and clean and work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Follow both written and verbal instructions and follow blueprints, wiring diagrams and service manuals and fill out written reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.
