About The Position

This position is assigned to Maury Correctional Institution located in Hookerton, NC. Maury CI is a close/medium custody facility which houses approximately 1500 male offenders. The primary purpose of the position is to perform skilled work in the maintenance, repair and/or construction of buildings and facilities.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to guide the work of skilled workers.
  • Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must have physical strength sufficient to perform heavy physical tasks for extended periods of time.
  • Must have skill in use of tools required in various technically complex trades.
  • Must be able to understand and work for sketches or penciled drawings.
  • Must be able to operate common types of machine shop or woodworking power equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Documented knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and/or material used in the general maintenance and/or repair of building, equipment and/or machinery.
  • Current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled work in the maintenance, repair and/or construction of buildings and facilities.
  • Functions at the journey level in multiple skilled trades such as electrical, plumbing, masonry, heating and air or similar specializations.
  • Perform complex work assignments requiring planning and coordination of multiple trade disciplines.
  • Work independently with limited oversight, seeking input from higher level trades specialists for novel maintenance problems.
  • Provide technical guidance to other positions engaged in skilled, semiskilled, or unskilled maintenance work.
  • Ensure work performed adheres to established maintenance, repair and/or construction standards.
  • Guide the work of skilled workers.
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Perform heavy physical tasks for extended periods of time.
  • Use tools required in various technically complex trades.
  • Understand and work from sketches or penciled drawings.
  • Operate common types of machine shop or woodworking power equipment.
