About The Position

This position is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of building systems and equipment. The role involves electrical, plumbing, heating, welding, carpentry, painting, air conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation, mechanical, and landscape/yard care tasks. The Maintenance Mechanic III also participates in preventive maintenance, quality improvement activities, and may act as a security person in the absence of a Security Officer. The position requires adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, standards, and hospital policies, including blood and body substance precautions, and continuous support of the Mission and Values of Johnson Memorial Health.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Completed necessary vocational training for certification in three of the maintenance trades which are requisite toward gaining journeyman capabilities or three years job experience in related fields.
  • EPA Type I and Type II certification for handling refrigerants is required.
  • Must meet the requirements of the Johnson Memorial Hospital skill level assessment program.

Responsibilities

  • Installs complete electrical systems, troubleshoots electrical issues, and repairs motor starters, switch gear, load centers, and equipment control circuits.
  • Prepares pipe and completes installations for domestic water, hot water heating, fire protection, sanitary waste, and steam supply and return lines.
  • Reads and follows blueprints and design standards to build and complete renovation and construction projects.
  • Repairs or installs air conditioning, refrigeration, and ventilation system components, ensuring proper environmental conditions and fine-tuning devices.
  • Applies preventive measures to keep equipment functioning per manufacturer's guidelines and provides leadership to Maintenance Mechanic I and II staff.
  • Rebuilds or repairs machinery and support equipment for building utility systems, including pumps, compressors, conveyors, laundry equipment, garbage disposals, food mixers, mowers, trimmers, hand tools, and patient care equipment.
  • Applies yard care principles for proper care of plantings, operating equipment for cultivation, fertilization, irrigation, trimming, mowing, and pruning.
  • Completes and files necessary reports.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance activities.
  • Acts as security person in absence of Security Officer.
  • Performs additional duties/responsibilities as assigned.

  • Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and hospital policies and procedures including blood and body substance precautions.
