About The Position

The Maintenance Mechanic III is responsible for maintaining a good working knowledge of the facility and its components. This role involves diagnosing mechanical and electrical malfunctions, installing, replacing, or repairing damaged equipment, and calibrating thermostatic controls. The mechanic will also repair and replace parts for heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration systems, and test electrical systems for compatibility and safety. Additionally, the position requires monitoring and adjusting air flows in hospital spaces, performing preventative and routine maintenance, and diagnosing/repairing various types of medical equipment. The role also includes responding to emergency situations and ensuring proper care of tools and equipment. Utilization of facility computer systems for maintenance history and workflow simplification is expected.

Requirements

  • Valid NYS driver's license.
  • Qualified to operate facility vehicles.
  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Ten years in the electrical, plumbing, and/or HVAC field.
  • Five years in building maintenance field.

Nice To Haves

  • College or vocational training in electrical and/or plumbing and associated trades is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a good working knowledge of the facility and its components.
  • Diagnoses mechanical and electrical malfunctions.
  • Installs, replaces, or repairs damaged equipment.
  • Calibrates thermostatic controls.
  • Repairs and replaces damaged or worn heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration parts and equipment.
  • Repairs or replaces low and high pressure liquid lines.
  • Tests electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures using testing devices to ensure compatibility and safety of the system.
  • Monitors, adjusts, and documents air flows in specific hospital spaces.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and routine maintenance such as servicing equipment, hanging pictures/wall hangings, changing light bulbs, and making repairs.
  • Diagnoses and repairs an assortment of different types of equipment including wheelchairs, beds, stretchers, and other medical equipment.
  • Responds rapidly, accurately, and efficiently under emergency situations and conditions including call-in duties, HVAC alarms, snow removal, sewer back-ups, or any other situation as determined by management.
  • Assures proper care in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Utilizes facility computer systems to simplify department workflow and retrieve maintenance and repair history.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
